New to Houston, looking to try an Italian place similiar to say Digilio Bros in Baton Rouge. Not especially fancy, but good Italian food. Casual, pair of jeans and a nice shirt. It's Houston, there are probably 1000 places but I don't even know where to start.

Anyway care to help? Not trying to spend a fortune but not looking for Fizolis' either.

Ok, thanks for the start. I don't want to just rely on Yelp but I don't know what else to do. I don't mind spending money, but I'm not looking for Gino's type place, a little more 'hole in the wall' and less formal for a early Sunday dinner. Rice Village area seems to have a number or choices.

Roma is probably the best choice...D’Amico’s hasn’t been good in years and I don’t know anyone who has eaten at Prego.

Coltivare in the Heights would also work for your early Sunday dinner...they open at 5...sit at the bar or the few seats they have at the pass.

This looks like a solid choice.

Closed on Sundays. I'm finding a lot of these places require reservations due to Covid. Strange days.

I saw that. I think we’ve decided on D’Amicos. That kind of goes against what was said above but she really liked the menu and we’re going early to make an afternoon of walking around Rice Village.

Again, I’m new here so if nothing else, at least I’ll know of ‘walking around the Village’ is worth doing again or not.

Thanks to everyone that contributed the suggestions! Those of you that are familiar with the restaurants here in Houston will be be subjected to my request for suggestions again.

Eating out is my favorite thing to do these days amd since I don’t drink, it’s much more affordable than it used to be. Thanks again for all the quick replies and I had reservations set for tonight by 10 this morning and was lost without yalls suggestions, even though we went went one that “hasn’t been good inn years’.

She liked the menu and I wanted more of a afternoon experience involving walking ‘the village’ so it works. I’ll report back the result.

Hate to hear about D’Amico’s, that was a staple when we lived in town. It’s been a while so if that’s not good, Amalfi was another place u would go.

We live up north area and their are two that I like a lot now:

1) Papa Amadeos- don’t let the location scare you

2) Gianna Italian in Tomball that is a great casual place

If you like that area, check out cafe Rabelais . Unless that has lost its luster too since I have moved up north
