How do brewers determine if they want to use the term Imperial or Double? Just personal preference by the individual brewery or are there slight differences chemically that designate it one of the two terms?

I always thought imperial denoted double digit ABV but not sure if that is correct or not.

no haven't had Roshambo yet. I tried El Hopadillo Negro (black ipa) and it was decent.
