Hometown/State food stereotypes that drive you up a wall?

Meeting someone that thinks KFC is Kentucky's contribution to the food world, when it's not even Top 5 in fried chicken joints in the state is one of mine.

KFC chicken isn't even remotely close to the chicken that came out of Claudia Sanders kitchen and made the Colonel famous. They're no more than a well-marketed chain.
It'd be like me saying Louisiana is famous just for Popeyes.

Popeyes is the shite and your analogy makes no sense anyway. I've never heard of the other foods you listed excluding bourbon. Louisiana has an entire genre of food.

It'd be like me saying that Louisiana cuisine is showcased by Popeyes to someone not from Louisiana (and sadly, I've heard someone here say that before).
I'm not saying Popeyes is awful (I'd eat there before KFC). But it isn't representative of Louisiana cuisine anymore than KFC is of Kentucky's. And sadly, I've heard some poor souls outside of the South use both stereotypes.

Sadly it's heroin more so than meth. And even sadder when you lose family to it while the state isn't particularly interested in doing anything about it.

See....the difference is all of that stuff you just listed, other than bourbon, which isn't even a "food", no one has hardly ever heard of outside of your geographical area. That can't be said for Louisiana cuisine. So, it would be silly to say we are famous for Popeyes food wise because we are known for so much more. What's wrong with this statement? Every time i go to New Orleans, I am sure to hit up the original Popeyes on Canal Street before heading down to Tropical Isle for hand grenades.
Used to go to the Krystal on Bourbon, but I switched to Popeyes to get a more authentic Louisiana experience.

When a gumbo or jambalaya loaded with tomato is advertised as "Cajun" cuisine, that's basically an insult to actual Cajun/Acadiana food.
New Orleans as good food, no doubt. But many of their dishes are not representative of the Cajun style.

you ever notice almost every jambalaya recipe from a non-native has shrimp? i know shrimp jambalaya exists, but i've never actually witnessed louisiana people making it. yet that is what everyone's perception of jambayala is.

The foods you listed are all actually really good, and far and away better than KFC. People in Kentucky don't eat KFC. I get your point.

I've had the hot brown at The Brown Hotel in Louisville. If that's a true contribution, then God help you.
I do enjoy derby pie and bourbon. I'm not really sure what burgoo is, but Kentucky has also contributed a unique style of barbecue (mutton at the Moonlite Inn) and Ale 8.
