Bmoney, how are you transferring from fermenter to the keg? I saw a picture a while back where you were racking through one of the keg posts. Still doing that?
Yep, I'm pushing from the carboy with CO2 into the liquid out post of the keg, so it's truly an O2 free transfer.
I can get my beer to smell pretty good, but I just can't seem to get that full on huge aroma I get from Ghost. Adding more hops doesn't seem to be the solution (I got to the point where I added too many dry hops and the beer was very astringent). I think it's process related now, only I lack to ability to do anything else given equipment limitations.

I looked at bru'n water, but that was too much for me.
I'm glad I'm not the only idiot. Bought the upgrade to Beersmith 3 as well, just haven't updated yet. Hoping the water profile is good enough. Just need to get a new PH meter.

Has anyone purchased Beersmith 3.0 yet?
I was talking to a brewing friend about it at work yesterday. I never liked BS 1.0 and 2.0 but I may give 3.0 a try. I'll at least evaluate the 30-day trial to see if I like it any better. It sounds like it has some pretty good features like water treatment (I like Bru'n Water just fine but it would be better if it was integrated into the brewing software), it handles meads and cider recipes and it also has a correction for brewing at altitude (I'm at 6200' ASL).

Would you flush it out or buy another?
I'd replace both.

Just go buy a roll of vinyl tubing from Lowe's. That way you'll have extra the next time this happens. As for the auto siphon, I hate them with a passion so IMO, you're better off.

I use a SS racking cane when I need to siphon something. You should put a ball valve on your kettle. You'll wonder how you ever lived without one. A Bazooka screen is also helpful if you use whole hops.
My issue with auto siphons is that I've had probably 3 or 4 over the years and I never had one that didn't suck air. I know they must exist because a lot of people love these things.

I only have a dozen or so homebrews under my belt, but I've also never had much luck with auto siphons. I just ferment and bottle from the same bucket now and it works fine, albeit more floaties in my beers. They don't bother me though.

Second looks like something you'd see on the Howard Stern show.

I took one of these and stuck a 1/4" flare fitting in it. That allows me to push beer out of a carboy with CO2. I don't use carboys much anymore but that was a good way to go for oxygen-less transfers.

Ah. Didn't realize you were referring to the kettle to carboy transfer. Time to drill a hole and put a valve in.

I need to setup something like this for a fermonster.

A couple of times, i'd take the CO2 hose and connect to the "blow piece"... this thing
But after a few times, i came to the realization that whether or not i'm pushing CO2 from a tank to that piece or if i'm using my own breath to get the prime going, it's all CO2.

I ended up putting one of these on, so all I have to do is hook up the CO2 line.

but after you stop blowing into it, it's not just CO2
