Or you can filter through a grain bag when you rack to the bottling bucket or keg and not lose as much beer to waste. I used to secondary religiously but I have seen the light.

That reminds me...I need to start dry hopping ZD5.

Dusty is still waiting to get fermentation started, the lazy underachieving brother of that half

If I were relegated to a garage I'd be less vibrant than I am. My whole chirpy persona would be twirled into a dirge of lackadaisicalness.

Oh, my saisons finished very dry. The oaked french benefits finished at 1.006 and the french benefits - sanguine on top of blood oranges finished at 1.004.

Still having issues with my autosiphon. I'll be tossing this one and getting another. Hoping oxidation doesn't occur.

Well guys here it is. My first homebrew. Belgian Witbier 4.2% ABV. It's a little bland but I didn't have very high expectations. It was from a kit with extracts.

Next batch I'm thinking will be a pineapple IPA. Anyone here ever make one of those?

We've made quite a few pineapple IPAs here. What would you like to know?

Which hops did y'all use? Do you use puree or juice and when do you add it?

I want to say it was 100% Galaxy hops. We added the fruit the same way we always do.
Frozen whole fruit. Dunked in Starsan. Cut the skin off then cube or slice it up and add the fruit after primary fermentation is done. It'll restart fermentation for a few days. Bottle or keg after 4-5 days or so.

Ended up with just over 6 gallons. Most wort I've made in a while. I guess my boil off wasn't as great. I've been boiling calmer than when I first dialed in my equipment. Before my boil was very aggressive.

Anyway, OG was 1.054. Target was 1.06. Had to add a little bit of cool water to bring down my mash temp. Total efficiency = 77%

I had to adjust my numbers quite a bit when I stopped boiling rapidly too. It made a huge difference in the boil off and I always ended up with a good bit more wort that I expected. I think I have it dialed in a good bit better now

Yeah, my adjustments would be very minimal. I'll do a couple more brews and see how it ends up. I like ending up with 5.5 gallons in the fermenter. Gives me close to an even 5 gallons at bottle time.

I think it will be another week of not brewing for me after my move. Iron Brewer is on Saturday and Sunday will probably be dedicated to house work. So next Saturday it is then.

Since it feels like I havent brewed in about 2 months I have a lot in the queue. I have a sack of North Carolina wheat that I want to use, then tons of various hops, then I have kumquats and wild persimmons to dump into sours, as well as a 15 gallon LA whiskey barrel to fill. Then I have to brew a beer for Zapp's. Lots of brewing needs to happen soon.

I'm awful about tracking my volumes and efficiency...

I know it's somewhere between 80% and 75% depending on how I sparge.

When I first started using my plate chiller I went through a period where all of my batches were short due to equipment loss, close to 5 gallons in the carboy. I upped my batches to 7 gallons and never lowered them when I went back to an immersion chiller.

On my batch Friday night I probably had 5.75G in the carboy and could have put another .75 in the carboy before sucking up all the hops and other break material.

I've got a recipe question.

So i brewed an American Brown ale. 1 oz. centennial at 60, 1 oz cascade at 30, and 1 oz cascade at whirlpool. Would dry hopping with some cascade be too much for a brown ale? I know the style is basically a hopped up brown ale. And i am looking for a little bit of fruitiness to go with some of the nutty roastiness.

2 oz. of cascade sound good? Or is that too much for a brown ale?
