This is a legitimate BugAC Worry.
Anything i might pickup, flavor/aroma wise if it has been oxidized?
Posted on 2/11/15 at 10:45 am to BugAC
Cardboard, Lipstick, Metallic, Sherry are all common oxidation flavors

What the hell does lipstick taste like?

Glad I'm not the only one that was wondering about that.

It made my wine taste stale, if that's a good descriptor. The wine tasted fine before that. I also sucked up a lot of air. It drained 3 gallons or so before I caught it and it was a large amount of bubble going through the hose.
Funny enough, I now use that same technique to rack wort from my no-chill cube to my fermenter to oxidize the wort before I pitch my yeast.

Well, i heard a slight hissing and saw stuff coming out of the racking tube. I couldn't tell if it was O2 or yeast, though. Hopefully i didn't mess up an entire batch. I've only had to dump 3 batches in my time as a homebrewer. Having to do one this late in the game is a real buzzkill.

Sadly this descriptor works for me. I have a 5 year old daughter who likes to put lipstick and nail polish on daddy.

I just copied that list, looking back at the article the guy says lipstick tastes like paper

On occasion I used to get a slight hiss and some bubbling in my auto siphon during transfer, but I've always attributed it to dissolved CO2 coming out of the beer.
Some things you can check are that there are no cracks in your racking cane (i've had an old racking cane and thief both develop cracks over time) and that the tubing you're using is a tight fit.
My suggestion to our members who come in afraid they've oxidized their beer is to drink it fast. Oxidation takes time to show up and only gets worse with age.
Beer looks great by the way... Would definitely drink

As a father of two girls (2.5 and 10 months) I know this day is coming...

If you are in the BR area, i could probably get some to you when it's ready. Same for the rest of the homebrewers here. Recently, i've been getting Bmoney my homebrews, and always looking for feedback.

Fire it up, Dough it In! 22 lbs makes for one full mash tun. Zappa Dust Cinque w/ 4.5 gallons pulled off to give to RDS....although he doesn't know it yet....to infect.

Pulled a porter sample last night, was down to 1.02, so I put it in the kegerator to chill before kegging.
Not very happy with it, I can't seem to make a porter that's not boozy to start.
The vanilla sort of masks that alcohol flavor, and it should mellow out, but it would be nice to have the base beer be really good

13 gallons of wort.....71% efficiency....not bad for that much grain. I'll boil tomorrow.

Just getting started in the Homebrewing world. I was directed to FDB and particularly this thread.
I bought a Deluxe kit from Northern Brewer and currently brewing an American Wheat as my first brew.
Anyone have any advice or need to knows? Anything will help.

Welcome to the wonderful world of spending money and getting drunk on your own toil. I assume the kit is an extract version......most of us started with that. Follow the directions.....but it will probably be a mediocre beer. That's ok. Keep at it and enjoy the learning experience...........

Yea I believe it is an extract kit. Im still new to all the terminology but im getting there. I have been reading/watching videos on how to make beers I enjoy now(Blue Moon, Abita types, etc.).
I will do a couple more extract kits and then start to venture off. From what I have read/watched, its not very difficult when it come to partial mash which is what i'll probably do next.
The reason I got into is bc me and the wife are expecting #3(finally a boy
) and my golfing/fishing all the time will be limited to almost never so I needed something to keep me busy around the house.
Preciate the advice in advance.
