I'm heading to NYC with my wife's family this Christmas.

They are all nice people, but the not the most adventurous eaters. Like seafood and anything to "ethnic" is scary to them.

What are some good recs on places to take them? Any recs for me and my wife to sneak off and get some real food or a drink?

We are staying near Times Square.

All I can think about is the Peking duck scene from A Christmas Story.

You should totally do that with your in-laws. And make sure they chop the head off at the table.

Lucali’s Pizza in Brooklyn, or Keste Pizza in Manhattan. Spumoni Gardens in Brooklyn.

Lan Zhou Handmade Noodle and Dumpling - 40 Bowery St.

Ivan Ramen - 25 Clinton St.

Mala Project - 122 1st Avenue

These are the 1st 3 places on my NYC list when I go back. I've been to Ivan Ramen before and it is outstanding. Menu has more than just ramen.

Lan Zhou supposedly has the best dumplings in New York and they are super cheap. Handmade noodle soup bowls also at a great price.

Mala project has some incredible looking sichuan dishes.

For something different, grand central station.

People watching, wine, beer, food is ok.

Thats a great trip

My wife and I went visit her sister in New York for a week at the beginning of December a few years back and the whole city was already in full christmas swing.

It's a neat experience.

I spent 10 hours sitting in Bryant Park doing some work on my laptop while they shopped. With all the christmas music and ice skating and shite going on it was very enjoyable

I’m looking for refs for me and the wife as well. It doesn’t all have to be boring.

I’ve only been to NYC for one weekend and that was 6 years ago.

Union Square Cafe the duck is excellent.

Christmas at Rolf's is a quintessential New York experience.

People see NYC in the Subject line and don't think to read the actual post.

Anyway, I spend most of my time in Greenpoint and Williamsburg, but my go-to spots with upscale pub fare are Allswell and The Bedford. It helps that those two places are so close to my parents place, but they're great spots to hang out and have a bite. Mugs Alehouse, across the street, has a good beer menu. Few other recommendations: Counting Room, Lilia, Oregano, Joe's Pizza, Vinnie's Pizza, Scriptum (Italian, but might be a little adventurous), Dar525, and Scalino.
