Has someone ever "borrowed" your kitchen gadget without asking??

Last night I opened the cabinet in search of my well seasoned "12 cast iron skillet. Next to my best knife it's probably my favorite kitchen tool. Well it was no where to be found. After some questioning of my wife, I find out my mother in law "borrowed" it for a friend. WTF?? I was so pissed. Keep in mind my MiL hates to cook and doesn't know shite about caring for cast iron. Just curious if anyone else has had someone "borrow" or screw up one of your prized kitchen tools.

No necessarily kitchen but my wife let one of her friends "borrow" one of my crawfish tables about a year ago. Still don't have it back. Thanks for reminding me, need to go "remind" her about it.

Why are you posting about it on here? Why aren't you in your truck on your way to MIL house? That is... if you want it back!

This.

Just decide to cook cornbread today and go pick up your skillet.

Back in my roommate days my kitchen tools were subject to countless atrocities. Scolding people using forks in my non-stick pans was met with, "oh, I'm being careful". Countless dishes just left in the sink, etc, broken glassware. The damage actually offset the cost of living with someone lol.

She lives an hour away. I gave her a good bit of grief about taking my shite. I'll be getting it back tomorrow.

Give your mil a cast iron skillet for Christmas so she can loan her own out to friends.

You are appropriately outraged. Basic cookware is not something you loan or borrow. That would be like 'borrowing' someone's pillow. If you ever feel the need to borrow a fricking 12" skillet you need to go to the store and buy yourself a skillet.

I get it that you don't want to start a war with your MIL, but that is an outrageous act. Even if she's culinarily clueless, there is no excuse for that behavior.

My roommate insist on using a metal spatula in my non-stick pans because "it feels better in his hands."

Tell him he needs to pay you for it.

This, and I would have a short talk with my wife if that ever happened at my house.
