Her job is to take your name and information down and promptly seat you once your table is available. The waiter or waitress is more or less responsible of informing you of the menu, what is and isn't available, the daily specials, and so forth.
Your grievances are directed towards the wrong person. For instance, do you "cuss out" the office receptionist that answers the phone and offers you a coffee or water when the office professional informs you that he or she cannot handle or perform the services you are requesting?

Even in the few times I have encountered incompetence or rudeness from a restaurant employee (and honestly I can't even remember the last time), I never lowered myself to curse out the hostess (of all people) as I tucked tail and left the restaurant.
Your passive aggressive, cowardly action is getting called out here and deservedly so.

Why was an F bomb necessary regardless of to whom you were addressing? Answer: It wasn't. There are adult ways to express disappointment reasonably.

So they told you ahead of time it was going to be a long wait and you have had other good experiences there. It is more on the manager that there was little communication regarding what they were out of, not the hostess.
But regardless, cussing out an hourly employee and speaking down to them is never acceptable and you're a POS for that.
I also own a business thats in a service industry. We would have had a manager speak to you directly and apologize for any mistakes made. But the moment you demean an employee and cuss them out, we would politely advise you that we would no longer accept your business moving forward.
You weren't harmed in any way, no one insulted you, and nothing happened that remotely justifies cussing out anyone out. You were slightly inconvenienced at most.

It was rather stunning to read that post. I certainly wouldn't be proud of myself. Thinking about it makes me cringe.
I agree with More Beer. I am also in the service industry and once a customer starts with the cussing, he or she is no longer wanted as a customer, right or wrong. It completely discounts that person.
ETA: These days it's constantly amazing that people feel so entitled to abusive behavior for the smallest inconveniences. It's discouraging and depressing. I don't need business so badly that I would allow my employees or even myself to be treated in the fashion in which the OP treated the hostess.

So the minimum wage, high school aged, hostess is supposed to keep all waiting parties continuously informed of everything going on in the kitchen?
