Hey Yall,
Just moved to NYC. Where is the best gumbo in the city? Or do you have any other Louisiana type joints to suggest?

Get out the stock out and make it yourself. Probably will be better than most anything you can find in the city.

You can easily find any ingredient necessary for gumbo in NYC. Please just make your own instead of subjecting yourself to what will almost certainly be a disaster

This tomato okra mess is what pops up on google images for New York City gumbo. I'd make my own.

If you can't, there's always a few online shops where you can get some good stuff. I've never used them, but they seem legit. Cajun grocer is one.

Chef Jean Bourgeois is at Blue Smoke in NYC... dunno if they have gumbo on the reg, but I suspect his is high on the list of NYC Gumbos.
Its a Danny Meyer joint, so possible he has his hands on a gumbo in one of them?
Or, make ur own! Ha.

Gumbo Bros in Brooklyn, started by two LSU grads. Great gumbo and poboys.

You'll find good smoked meat at the Farmer's Market in Union Square on Wednesday and Saturday.

I find it hard to believe that there is no place in new york city that has good cajun food. If you can find food from freaking ethiopia and kenya, there will be soooomewhere that has decent Cajun food.

What did that run you? $25?
I went to Gumbo Bros a few months back and had a cup of gumbo, roast beef poboy, and a drink for just over $20. Seemed pretty reasonable considering where it is.

Terrible to eat or terrible representation of what you think gumbo is? I can see the later. But okra and tomatoes is awesome.
