Restaurants are really trying to survive. Here are two new examples of two restaurants reorganizing their way of business.

Gris-Gris posted today on Facebook that it will be hosting private dinners. Looks like a fun time if you're inclined. Don't know if it will keep the restaurant afloat, but I hope so.

quote:

*BIG NEWS!* We're switching gears and re-opening in a NEW WAY -- with exclusive PRIVATE dinner, brunch and cocktail experiences for small groups! Available August and September, we're giving guests the opportunity to book the ENTIRE restaurant and work directly with Chef Cook to create a unique, BADASS culinary experience -- whatever you want, we'll make it happen.

Advance booking available Tuesday-Sunday, all private events will require a $1200 food/bev minimum.

For more details and to book your party email events@grisgrisnola.com or text/call (504)435-5151. Spots will fill up FAST! We can't wait to have you back in our home for dinner!

Brigtsen's is starting to go only today. It's an interesting setup. I hope it works for him.

From the website:

quote:

Takeout Menu & Guidelines:

·Brigtsen’s Restaurant will reopen for Takeout service on Thursday, July 30th.

·Our menu will be posted each morning on our website brigtsens.com

·To place your order, check the menu online, choose a pickup time (5:00, 5:30, 6:00, or 6:30), then call the restaurant at 504-861-7610 between 10:00 am and 3:00 pm. We will be open Tuesday – Saturday.

·Low-contact pickup will take place on the sidewalk in front of the restaurant. You may park in Dante Village Shopping Center or use street parking. Orange safety cones will be set up to form a line.

·Please wear a mask and practice safe distancing.

Credit Card payment preferred. Really preferred. Exact change only for cash.

·Just as our restaurant has limited seating, we can only take a limited number of Takeout orders each day. If you get shut out, we apologize. Please try again another day.

·Our dining room staff will now be handling takeout orders and pickup. Gratuities are deeply appreciated.

Chef Frank's two cookbooks (signed) are also available on the menu.

·Chef Frank cannot personally accept your orders, please don’t message him. You know he loves you, but he can't take your order.

·We look forward to serving you!

Interesting ideas for both. Def will order to go from Brigtsen's. Gris Gris concept is interesting, but probably will need a pre-existing social group to take advantage of it ($1200 min will require at least 8-10 people to make it work).

Yeah, I'd probably have to get about 24 people to bring it in line with what we'd normally spend there. Plus that keeps it under the 25 person mandate. I'm sure some people are looking for large gathering spaces like that to try and celebrate life events, etc right now. So maybe it'll work. Hopefully it's enough to keep them afloat until things open back up.

I will definitely be ordering Brigtsen's takout. It remains a favorite of mine, in part because it's cozy, has delicious food, and the kitchen and staff prize hospitality and comfort over flash/noise/trendsetting. You can have a conversation over dinner at Brigtsen's in a normal tone of voice....

I thought about that, but if you get 12 folks and each pay $100 or so for a fun night out with a small group, it wouldn't be so burdensome. He's got a photo of a table for about 12 upstairs, but I would much rather get a group and sit around the "kitchen table" downstairs and interact with the chef and the staff. How much business of that type he can get, who knows....

I know someone going back and forth most weekends, so I'm watching for some foods that would reheat okay other than the bisque and gumbo. I'm not terribly interested in lasagna from there.

One of the best La restaurants. I just don't see how to-go will work for them though. That's a sit down experience IMO. It's not really takeout food.

I do hope it works out though.

Appoline is opening as well. Aug 1st.

First restaurant that I have seen that says masks will be required when ordering as well.

He posts a lot on Facebook and I'm interested in seeing posts on how it works out. The menu includes some dishes that are not on his usual menu like "Chef Larry's lasagna", for example, and some tacos. There are a few entrees listed that are staples there.

They ask you to. Went 3 weeks ago and I didn't wear one at the table.

I don't do the takeout. After the first few weekends of COVID and realizing how much doing takeout fricking blows, no thank you.

I can wait for Brigtsen's to open.

I'm was wondering if they stand off to the side in your sightline before approaching.

Don't disagree, but Frank has a ton of people who love him (well deserved) and if this keeps the business afloat, they will do the take-out in the hope that it will enabke a sit down experienc ein the future.
