I had to replace my factory grates. These supposedly conduct heat better, reduce flare ups, and reduce sticking.

Not exactly. You still need to place them on top of your existing grates. Supposedly they provide a more even heat distribution and the thicker grates mean thicker grill marks.

They sell direct replacement grates as well.

I ordered the replacements and throwing the old cast iron grates away after 7-8 years of use.

Got on this

$50 when normally $120

Malcolm Reed uses then, so that is good enough for me

They do all this except reduce sticking. I got them for my green egg and they are great. The steaks get more char flavor from the larger grill marks and chicken is easier to cook because there’s no flare ups.

They are crucial to the sear half of my reverse sear routine.

The get hot and do so fast.

I recommend the grate tool (spatula) as well.

You can also turn them upside down and use them as a griddle.

$130 for grates when I have a brand new grill? I don't think it's worth it.

This thread is about grill grates, not grills.

Nobody is saying you need to go out and buy these for a brand new grill if you do not want to

i'm so disappointed with this thread. those things must have sold out within a couple hours.

now i'm no longer happy with my shitty rusted iron weber grates.

i just replaced the thermometer and the flavorizers thinking the iron grates were still 'ok' but after looking at those i seriously have the bug to get something to put on top of the grates or to replace.

i dont want to spend $120 though. any good lower cost options that are similar to the OP?

how old is the weber? they have a pretty generous replacement policy with the grates. the bars and things under are only like 2 years, but i just replaced all those off amazon for like $40

exactly what i just did but the grates are pretty worn. they're in no danger of falling apart anytime soon but they have definitely shed a few layers of 'skin' over the years.

i just wanted to try those grillgates; they look interesting and its football outdoor grilling season!
