My grill is old and needs to be replaced. I've considered getting a blackstone grill instead of a new grill. Will the griddle work instead of the grill in most applications? I'm sure burgers, steaks, chickens thighs will be fine on the griddle, my only concern is boned meats such as chicken wings or chicken thighs. Is blackstone the best brand or are there other good options to consider?

You can get a gas grill, and slap a cast iron griddle on top of it to have best of both worlds

I use my grill for a lot more things than I do my griddle.

THIS x 10000

I was faced with your same situation OP and chose the Blackstone and have completely regretted it. I used my grill 2-3 times a week and now only use my Blackstone maybe once a month because its just not as convenient and you have to clean and season after use. I didn't have that problem with the grill other than turning it on before use and quickly cleaning it with a wire brush. Also, dealing with the rust that you will inevitably get on the griddle is a pain in the butt to deal with.

I also miss the grill/flame flavor you just cannot get with a Blackstone.

I spend as much time cleaning my griddle as I do cooking on it.

Get a grill.

Get both. Small 2-3 burner Blackstone and a Weber Kettle.

I have the 4 burner Blackstone, Weber Kettle, and Camp Chef pellet grill. Never hurts to have options.

I have a large pricey griddle I replaced my old Weber propane grill with. Much preferred the old Weber grill.

I have a Weber genesis and had grillgrates and last year swapped them out for the griddle insert. I much prefer the griddle for burgers and steaks and veggies but I don’t like it for chicken thighs. The juices sit and prevent from getting as good of a sear as the grill. I still have the grill grates but have not gone back. I leave all the cooking residue on my griddle just like I used to with my grill and then clean it before I use it again. No issues with rust
