Great food day: Gonzo's Smokehouse and Modesto Taco

Lucky enough to have some mutual friends with the guy who owns/runs Gonzo's Smokehouse in Luling. Made the drive this morning to get a couple preorders of brisket, turkey breast, pork belly, mac and cheese, and smoked corn grits. He does Texas style BBQ, and he does not disappoint.
I'm a pit snob so it was great getting to check out his dual 500 gallon smokers. The best pork belly I've ever eaten, needed none of the mango habanero sauce he provides. Turkey breast was great, lots of black pepper which I enjoy. Brisket was a great representation of central Texas BBQ. Both sides were fantastic, the grits were extremely buttery and mac and cheese had a great flavor and creamy consistency. If you haven't already, I'd give him a follow in Instagram and check out what all he has to offer.
Nightcap was Modesto Taco back home in BR as the wife loves Mexican. I thought it was very good, fresh ingredients and actual mexican food. Atmosphere was nice too, out on the patio area around 730-8 felt great. My favorites were the Al Pastor tacos and the Tres Leches cake. The wife enjoyed her white chocolate bread pudding.

Gonzo is turning out the best bbq in the area right now. Usually make that trip every other week.
If you missed the beef ribs today you really missed out. Agree on the pork belly.

Gonzo's is only open on Fridays according to Google maps. Is that accurate?

Funny—I was just looking up Modesto earlier this morning. Looks good

I'm pumped for Modesto. Going tonight. I love mexican food, and their Instagram has me salivating

Not sure, I think he opens up on other days as well. Best bet is to check out his Instagram as he posts links to his site for pre-orders when he will be open and info about pop-ups etc.

We got their queso for an app, pretty darn good. Enough so that my wife opted for more queso on her enchiladas which were great. The surprise for me was the shrimp taco. I still think they found a match in heaven with the pork and pineapples on the Al Pastor taco.

Pretty much. He has swapped a friday out for a saturday before. Follow his social media for the best results.
Think he is planning to popup at Tin Roof in BR. He has done so in the past.

I follow him on Instagram. It appears he's only open 1 day a week. Either Friday or Saturday.
Don't go by what google says. His Instagram gives the day he is open a few days in advance.

It's freaking beautiful. What metal to get that effect?

Just steel, but two days of sanding and then a few layers of clear coat and voila! Lol.

Too bad for those of us not on social media. Might just make the drive one Saturday and see if I catch him.

Saturday's aren't his normal day to be open. Friday around 11:00 is usual.
Do yourself a favor and get an Instagram just for food purposes. Well worth it.

I wouldn't mind checking him out too but only accessible one day a week through Instagram? He don't wanna be found. That must not be his full time gig.
