I’m traveling to BR much more these days, but I haven’t really got a lay on the land. Places akin to NOLA joints like Brothers III, Chart Room, Old Point... cheap beer, good jukebox, interesting characters.

Port Royal - next to the Waffle House at College and Corporate

Old New Orleans - on Lobdell, between Government and Goodwood

The Patio - on Jefferson, in a little shopping center with a convenience store, next to where the inspection sticker place is. It doesn't have a sign.

Cedarcrest Lounge closed a while back and has reopened as a gay bar. Not that there's anything wrong with that.

These look good. Anything close to campus that isn’t too douche-y?

Lakeside Bar on Burbank has a following. We went once but weren't too crazy about it. Your mileage may vary.
Port Royal isn't that far from campus. It's a straight shot down Lee/College to get there.

Pam is opening a new dive bar on Airline, kind of across from Cedarcrest. It's at 10466 Airline and will be called The Bookstore.
Slinky's would sure fit the definition of a dive bar near campus.

Bogie's is the best of the college bars, but I don't know if any of them would have the crowd you're looking for.

I would suggest Ivar's or Phil Brady's possibly (if you're into old man blues music).

The best place to hang out nearish to campus used to be the Spanish Moon, but they're still undergoing renovations.

Earline’s Alligator Hilton was the GOAT

Port Royal is a good one

Bayou Bar near the EBR/Ascension line might work

Timeout looks pretty good. I don’t go to bars to find women. I want cold, cheap beer, good music, and good people.

It’s a trap! I was at Chewbachus Saturday night and these hard-legged Jersey guys were being obnoxious AF. They asked for a cool, laidback place. I suggested the Phoenix.

A few years ago, a buddy of mine got dragged into going there by a cute crazy chick who wanted to go to karaoke. He thinks someone slipped him a roofie -- he ended up leaving after just two beers, barfing all over the place and sleeping for half a day.

I was in Vienna a few years ago. The bars there shut down pretty early. I went to a gay bar just out of desperation for a drink. I met a girl there (not the Bruce Jenner type) and ended up making love in a hammock at 4 am. Good things come to those who wait. Even a blind squirrel finds a nut every once in awhile!
