In a busy stretch for local food fests, a Luling-based restaurant open just two days a week took home a trove of trophies from two separate food fests. It wasn’t the only small restaurant to win big at both events. Gonzo’s Smokehouse & BBQ won the top award at Top Taco held Thursday in Metairie's Lafreniere Park, with its smoked pork cheek entry named the G.O.A.T. (“Greatest of All Tacos”). It was both the top pick by festival judges and the fan favorite. Three days later, Gonzo’s was named Best of the Fest at the Oak Street Po-Boy Fest.

Opened up for 2 hours this week instead of 1?

(I know I am wearing this joke out, I am kidding. They are open such few and odd hours I can never get there and I am bitter about it)

LOL

I’ve never been there either though I have had his food. They were at gnarly barley a while back for GnarBQ and it was incredible. But like you I work every weekday a good distance from luling and can’t get there when they are open

I agree that they need to open on a Saturday or Sunday.
I took my elderly dad on a Friday and the owner was super nice to us and the food was outstanding.

I have been wanting to try this place for over 2 years, but have given up completely due to their lack of availability

Wasted a Friday about a year ago, not gonna bother again

A lot of people don’t seem to understand that a big part of why it is so good is because he can focus on perfection for the small window each week. If he were to open everyday it would inevitably lead to lower quality with his current small operation.

I took a day off just to go. It was definitely worth it.

Go early, bring a chair and a cooler of beer and enjoy the experience. This is part of what makes top notch bbq great.

I live right next door and I've never even been. Maybe I should go.
