I dont care that its in the ghetto but the customers in the place are terrible. The parking lot is a complete clusterfrick. I am a sucker for their crawfish and plate lunches though.

The lady in front of me is trying to buy a dozen of the largest crabs but is asking the guy to mark them down as the smallest crab price. He must have told her about 5 times that he couldnt do it so she just eventually got the small ones. Then she was asking the kid if she could try a crawfish and he asked how many lbs. She said no she just wanted to try a single one right there. Meanwhile me and 3 other people in line are looking at each other in disbelief. The kid says she cant try them and she basically begs him until he gives her one. She eats it right there and he asks if she wants some and she said no in a rude voice, put the shell on the counter, and walked away. I ended up behind her in the pay line and what do you know she paid for the dozen crabs with a hundred dollar bill.

on a side note, why is this place still in the ghetto?

Because it wasn't when it opened.

Customer base is still loyal and willing to drive there.

well, in regards to crawfish I am sure Joe Patti's isn't better than Tony's...but as a seafood market in general...Joe Patti's is fantastic...

I have some Mahi and Tuna from JP's I was just contemplating defrosting for dinner.
That place owns.
I won't disrespect Tony's though. Love that joint.

Dude, we're talking about a place in town. Joe Patti's is awesome indeed, but obviously has nothing to do with the OP.

Even with the sheriff's guys directing. I always feel like I'm about to get run over.

I'ma lways amazed at how Redemptorist High managed to stay open in that part of town. I sure in the hell wouldn't want my kids participating in extra curricula activities, especially if it meant that they had to practice at night. During the fifties, NBR was the basic hub of BR. I remember Delmont Village being the best shopping center. Of course that was before Bon Marche.

Why? They make a killing where they are and those in S. BR are willing to drive there.

This.
They probably own their land and building. Even if not, their over head can't be all that much where they are.

Old man Pizzolato was asked one time before he died on television if he ever would open in South Baton Rouge and he replied why? They come to see us here.

I drive there all the time and don't think anything of it and until there is one to compete on the opposite side of town I'll continue to do so.

Many places have tried, Off the Hook, LA Boilers, Tommy's Fish House, City Market. They all suck.

And if you can't negotiate the parking with two Sheriffs directing you need to let someone else drive. I never have a problem.

And no one can boil crawfish, shrimp or crabs as good and consistent as Tony's. I have almost completely quit boiling because its just too easy to pick up from them. I do it only on occasion and only to keep from getting rusty or to show people from out of town how it's done.

Don't most places let you do that? Makes sense to because if they like it they'll buy some and if not, you won't have someone mad because they paid all that money and didn't like it.

Now, the crab thing was assclownery at its finest, but why not let someone try one crawfish?

The point is that she was holding up the line and didn't end up buying any. If so, it probably wouldn't have been mentioned.
