Even beats out Heady Topper and a few of the other 'big dogs'.
Wish I could get a hold of some in Atl and try it at least once

Article and list has a great write up of a ton of ipa's and is worth a read

Ghost In The Machine is great, and that's impressive, but how in the frick do you objectively rank 176 DIPAs? Pretty much an impossible task. I'd love to have been a part of it.

I think Heady Topper is extremely overrated.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not turning one down if given the chance, I actually had one yesterday while watching football, but it's not all that people make it out to be.

Hell, it's not even the best beer Alchemist brews.

From this list (Top 50), I've had the following:

48. Ballast Point Manta Ray
47. Lord Hobo Consolation Prize
44. The Alchemist Heady Topper
36. Lawson's Finest Liquids Sip of Sunshine
26. Aeronaut Brewing Co. Double Hop Hop
12. Parish Brewing Co. Ghost in the Machine
11. Grimm Artisanal Ales Afterimage
6. Tree House Bright

Pissed that I missed out on Trillium Street Shark, I was out of town for work when they released it and wasn't able to get my hands on any.

From 51-176, I've had:

The Alchemist Crusher
Burlington Beer Co. Beekeeper
Burlington Beer Co. It’s Complicated Being a Wizard
Castle Island Brewing Co. Hi-Def
DC Brau On the Wings of Armageddon
Dogfish Head 90 Minute IPA
Dogfish Head 120 Minute IPA
Exhibit “A” Brewing Co. Hair Raiser
14th Star Brewing Co. Tribute DIPA
Hop’n Moose Brewing Co. Better Dayz
Lagunitas Maximus
Lord Hobo Boom Sauce
New Belgium Voodoo Ranger Imperial IPA
Night Shift The 87
Trillium Mosaic Cutting Tiles
Two Roads Road 2 Road
Two Roads Two Juicy
Wicked Weed Freak of Nature
Wormtown Be Hoppier

Only 27 out of 176...I need to start putting in work.

How in the hell does Monkish not even crack the top 176? Did they just not submit anything?

I was able to get my hands on this. It was very good. My biggest complaint was I only received one can.

I don't think Tree House Bright is better than Ghost. No Monkish?

I am pretty sure this exact company did the same test not too long ago and yes it was confirmed that a lot of the heavy hitters did not even submit a beer.

You can't. Plus, even 176 DIPAs is just scratching the surface of the total number of DIPAs up there.

That being said, it does not surprise me that GITM ranks that highly.

One that surprised me because it made the top tier is Rogue's Straight Outta Newport. I haven't even tried it, because I just generally don't drink Rogue IPAs - for good reason.

Some of the tasters probably favored traditional IPAs, while others may have given higher marks to the hazy juice bombs. That's probably another reason that the scores are all over the place.

ETA: Yes, many of the heavy hitters did not submit beers, and some of those that did, didn't submit their top beers.

I think they got some of the beers that were available on the shelves, so whoever submitted Pliny the Elder didn't do Russian River any favors. Having Pliny finish out of the top 50 is not good PR for them.

So if I have a beer that is widely considered to be one of the top DIPAs, I'm not going to submit it. If anything, I'll submit one of my one-offs, instead, so they don't rate my flagship. If it does great, that's good. If it flops, then that's OK, because it was just a one-off.
