Now why in the hell would I go out to the boonies to go out to eat at a restaurant housed in an athletic club?

I would imagine they are not counting on a huge walk in business. There are a bunch of members at SOAC and we currently have no food providor.

Maybe he's trying for more of a neighborhood type restaurant?

Kind of like Dempsey's on Coursey?

i agree. i talked to the managers the few times i went... and his business def didnt follow through on some of the concepts he conveyed to me. which is a shame because i would not have minded supporting this business. maybe its because i never had the shrimp bong. lol

I kind of liked his fish tacos

I don't understand the appeal of this extremely simple, overpriced dish. I guess it is a signature dish for guys graduating from the Taco Bell level. Is it the thing you order the 1st time you go out without your team jersey and your ball cap turned around?

I heard people rave about Dingo's fish tacos. So we picked some up, paid $10 for $2 worth of fish and $1 worth of fixings. Soured me on the place right off the bat.

AMF Dingo's, AMF Brandon's Cajun Cafe, AMF amateur night.

brandon's cafe

:( Aw, love my Brandon.

ETA: There were 2 Brandon's working/co-owning this place so we might be talking about different Brandons.

I remember getting fish that had the triple frozen texture of chicken and wishing the guy would just shut-the-frick up. I don't intend to be mean, but wow.. one of my worst experiences in a while.

Tilapia on the menu is a simple way of knowing that this restaurant does not take seafood seriously. When I see it I either walk out or order anything but seafood.

There is no excuse for a south Louisiana restaurant to sell tilapia.

I'm not really surprised.

The thing I liked most there was the pumpkin soup. Otherwise the sandwiches were overpriced, and the fish tacos were bland if you didn't eat them with the mango salsa. I appreciated the fact that the owner was a genuinely nice guy with an infectious grin.

I wrote a review of the place April of last year when they first opened, looks like they didn't make it to a year.

last i heard Jay's was still in negotiations for the old Starbucks spot on Coursey near the Walmart neighborhood market ..

Hate to see Jay lose his proximity to St Jean Vianney(or any large church congregation within a few hundred feet). But, do think that this Coursey location(with a drive-thru) could keep him in business, if not possibly expand it. Good to hear Rag. BR needs Jay's Donuts.

Hope Dingo's resurfaces too, never tried it yet, and was looking forward to a fish taco..pass on the vegemite.

You obviously don't know shite about the restaurant business because that equates to 30% food cost which is a very profitable target for the operator.

i think he understands profit margins. i interpreted it as he didnt feel like it was worth the money. Every dish is every restaurant is overpriced. the key is to get your patron not to think about that.
