First step is prepare a beast mode shrimp boil.

Then eat as normal saving the heads as you go. Remove the shell off of the heads then pop the legs and brains and stuff into some fish fry batter. Fry for a bit...

We also tossed the garlic from the boil into the fryer as well. Duck empanada in the photo on the right.

Anyway, the spiders were yummy. Sort of soft shell creature-ish. Anyone else enjoy these?

Yea, I don't know if you could fry the face of a gulf shrimp like you can those ebi (amaebi?), sweet shrimp. I love getting those too. The head is better than the raw tail to me.

You can fry the entire head structure....done it many times. Damn tasty. Just coat and fry the uncooked heads.

Never had 'em. Grew up in a house of picky eaters and had to teach myself how to try new things. I'm moving this to the top of the list. Looks good

Had these at a party once about 7-8 years ago, except they were done with crawfish heads. I had never heard of this before, and once I tried one, couldn't stop eating them. Haven't heard of anyone frying them (or shrimp)up since.

honestly not a fan. It's a texture thing.

I think that's why they're called spiders, since the texture of all of those legs makes it seem like you're eating a spider. I've never even contemplated eating a spider, so yea I can understand why people would shy away from it.

Favorite part of the shrimp. Never thought about doing after the boil fried spiders. Thanks for the tip.

Looks good. I've done this before, but usually use raw shrimp. I'll try it with the boiled ones next time we have a boil!

Just went to Tony's, partially because of this thread.

Dry batter or wet batter?

You can run them through buttermilk and then fish fry or seasoned corn meal, or you can skip the buttermilk. Works well either way. Fry 'em like fish....375 until floating and golden.
