Not surprised by this at all. Think I mentioned it in another post a while back.

I thought they had closed at one point already, but maybe the close was temporary?

They closed to revamp the menu and opened back up. Think that was late September.

I’m sure the food there was good, but the new menu was small and limited and nothing that’s going to get people through the door. I’m also not a big beer drinker, but kind of felt the same about their beer selection. It wasn’t anything special. Was also a lot of square footage to keep open trying to sell beer and small plates.

I live close and never could get comfortable there. Don't think they could decide what they wanted to do. Bar or resturant. I hope whoever takes over this space the best of luck.

Wayfare on freret closes earlier this year. Is something going on with freret street?

Wasn’t that long ago that this street was revitalized with new restaurants and bars. Is it now an afterthought?

I don’t think so. Wayfare closed likely bc lease was up. Acropolis has already opened in the old Wayfare location and should do well given the lack of good Greek in that area. Freret Beer Room was just a half baked concept IMO. Don’t think it would have survived in any other part of the city either.

Maybe, who knows.

There is a pretty new set of businesses right across from Wayfare, the new Aldor Hotel is right there which provides ready made guests, and the real estate is still high as giraffe...horns.

Halal guys closed as well along this stretch. All three of these are kind of second tier restaurants there though.

Brees brings home a Super Bowl and another 10 years of prosperity.

Wayfare basically sold out of their lease right? There's a restaurant moving right in.

I was at High Hat last week during the middle of the week and they didn't have a single table open.

LOL, a restaurant with painfully artsy sandwiches and a cavernous beer hall which did not sell much interesting beer lasted years and years there. Freret is just maturing, and the rents are going up so yea there's going to be some turnover.

Whenever that Rouses opens (which was supposed to break ground back in August I believe), it will bring additional foot traffic to the area.

It will be interesting to see how much more the TU/Loyola undergrads gravitate toward Freret once the Rouse's opens.

That project has to be running behind. Supposed to open in April I think. Doesn’t look like anyone is working on it. They’re also supposed to raze the house next door, haven’t seen any progress on that either.

I stopped early last week and it seemed that there was something going on. Didn't really look, but it seemed like there was a dumpster out front or something.
