It's good stuff. My half filipino friend's mom use to have these filipino parties where all the filipinos would bring food. Their egg rolls are really good, but ponsit(sp?) was my favorite dish... Ponsit is prepared like fried rice with the egg, vegetables, meat sometimes, except instead of rice it is made of very thin egg noodles. For the most part, everything is similar to other asian foods.

See if they have a soup that has some pork cartlidge and bock choy in it. If they do order it.

I'm not particularly impressed with the cuisine as a whole but I do like to use Jufran Banana Sauce in place of ketchup in my home.

Chicken Adobo is the quintessential dish and very good. Lumpia are their riff on eggrolls and very good.

When I joined the Coast Guard in the 80's almost all our shipboard cooks were Filipinos (Navy/CG steward days). Rice with everything. They would take all the fish we caught and score the, rub in seasonings and wrap in foil with vegetables and put right on the coals. Everyone could just reach in with forks and fingers and pick the fish off the bone and try the different dipping sauces.

As someone posted earlier it's basically Asian type food with a Spanish and American influence.

Filipino food is awesome. I've eaten it about 4 or 5 times and have never been disappointed.

Stay away from some dish that has duck embryo (complete with already formed soft bones...no I'm not kidding).

Other than that, have fun trying the cuisine. I highly recommend it.
