Potato salad or cole slaw is great as well, but I've run into more bad recipes where people go nuts with the mayo than I prefer.

Yeah
I love a good country potato salad.
I hate it when it’s sweet or too creative

Turnip Greens

Collard greens is about as Southern as it gets. Gets my vote for cultural importance and ubiquity, but there’s some great other ones mentioned as well.

That's a good description. It's a simple dish but some like to throw in every "secret" they've ever heard into theirs and it just turns into a goulash.

Thankfully, my mom was able to get the recipe, and it lives on in my own cookbook.

Let's have it. I need a good homemade recipe, and there's no reason to not share it.

Actual Dirty Rice with gizzard, not just ground beef.

Make it with mild ground country sausage, as wife would balk at gizzards or liver, and it’s fiyah.

I must confess I haven’t had too many collard green dishes

I’ve always been aware of it, and I know greens can grow wild.

Another vegetable id like to find a nice recipe for

Was gonna ask why no liver…
I use liver and gizzard but sometimes I double the liver and leave the gizzard out..

I use Paul prudomes recipe but back off on the amount of salt and white pepper

I'll make a confession with you.

I love nearly all "southern foods" except for collards and turnip greens. My grandmother could throw down anything in the kitchen and no one has ever said a bad thing about her cooking, but I've never been a fan of any collard/turnip recipe. Just not my thing.

Cabbage with bacon. Honestly, cabbage with anything salty added is just amazing.

Regarding the post about tomato/cucumber/onion salad with vinegar, add a dash of sugar to that.

Or, go online and google Babe's salad dressing and follow the menu. Best salad dressing I have tasted in over my 70+ years on this earth.

And whatever y'all decide, fried hot water cornbread makes any meal better. Especially with purple hull peas.

“Collard greens is about as Southern as it gets…”

Cook the bacon first… then greens in bacon grease … then add crumbled bacon…

In my house collard greens was just a carrier to cook more bacon :)
