I thought Macallan was Highland?
Speyside is technically a sub region of highlands. So macallan, while being located in the speyside boundaries, labels themselves highlands.
The boundaries weren't even defined until 2009. Speyside was carved out of highlands.

HIglands and Speyside are two different regions, Macallan is in Speyside. The other regions are Islay, Campbelltown and Lowlands. Speyside has the most distilleries.

Buy him a blow job and a bottle of Cutty Sark. He might forget the 'Scotch,' but he will never forget the blow job...

It's honestly a little confusing. Macallan is in the Speyside region, which can be considered its own variety or a subset of the Highland variety, and Macallan markets itself as Highland, although it kind of calls itself Speyside on its website. So either is probably correct. I was really just contrasting it with the islay variety.

One of the best bottles I've had as of lately is the Glen Grant 18. I believe Jim Murray's Whiskey Bible had it ranked first or second last year. It is around the $120 price point, though.
You need to know what flavor profile your father enjoys most (smoky/peaty, oaky, sherry finished, etc.) before you shell out that kind of cash on a bottle.
Martin's has a pretty good selection of scotch from independent bottlers (e.g. A.D. Rattray)that can be excellent scotches that would normally run well over $200 but are priced at or below $200.
