Id bail on Daniel. It didnt live up to its billing as a 3 Star Michelin. Should have gone to Le Bernardin instead.

Eleven Madison Park has become a fricking circus IMO since the ownership change and I doubt I will ever eat there again.

How long ago did this happen? I always pictured myself going to EMP for my one fancy meal the next time I get up to New York.

Danny Brown Wine Bar is in Forrest Hills in Queens but it is a great place with good food.

Blue Hill is another really great place that is not too expensive but a really cool place with great food. It is in Greenwich somewhere around Washington Park. One of my favorites.

Danny Brown is nice and about a twenty minute cab ride.

There was a story in the New Yorker a few weeks ago. They basically have gone off on some New York cuisine inspired tasting menu tangent. Its a 4 hour culinary odyssey through the gems of New York's culinary achievments, or something like that.

While he hasnt panned it officially yet, last week's Pete Wells dismissal of tasting menus seemed to focus on the pretentious foolishness of what EMP is doing.

That was an interesting read. Always struck me as a concept that was bound to 'jump the shark' eventually.

As for the thread topic. I don't have as much experience at the high end there as some posters obviously do. I have, however, had really fantastic meals at Babbo and Gotham Bar and Grill, and would comfortably recommend both.

Need to get back. Left a lot of meals on the table. Particularly enjoyed Momofuku, Earl's Beer and Cheese, Gramercy Tavern, Ess a Bagel, Parm, and Eataly.

Absolutely agree. Babbo is a great "quintessential NYC experience" and Gotham is fantastic and also has one of the best lunches in the city.

River Cafe in Brooklyn. Expensive, but memorable.

Le Bernadin is one of my greatest dining experiences ever. It gets my vote too.

The Place. Had a great meal in a very intimate environment. 21 years old and first real nice dining experience outside of Louisiana.

Fairly underwhelmed by Ben and Jacks which was pricey.

Truth. Daniel was very good.... Just doesn't live up to its reputation. Le Bernardin is one of my favorite restaurants in NYC.

They are catering to the Michelin star seeking crowd. I think Humm and his partner closed on the sale with Danny Meyer last year. They have gotten away from the service oriented experience with great food to this sterilized "concept" dining approach. It's an event type experience and everyone I know who has been in the last year hated it. If you want a show, go for it. If you want a great meal without a bunch of theatrics, go elsewhere.

If I was going with parents to NYC.....my choices would be LeBernadin(recently remodeled and beautiful) and Babbo(duck ravioli..wow)! After those two experiences enjoy the great pizzas(Roberta's) burgers(Shake Shack) lunch spot to top TV people(Union Square Cafe) and o well Katz Deli for pastrami sandwichs to die for! BonAppetit!

After spending 5 years commuting to NYC about 75% of the time, I always pimp El Centro Vasco as an unknown, local place that is beyond good.
