Famously bad Thanksgiving dishes you have to smile and eat

My sister's oyster dressing is soupy and green with too many green onions. One of my favorite dishes is inedible. But she is proud of it and thinks we all look forward to feasting on her masterpiece, no one dares tell her what a disaster it is.
My late mother-in-law had a cornbread dressing that took a quart of wine to wash down. They could have used its liquid absorption qualities to stop the Katrina flooding.
My aunt usually brought this pinwheel salad on individual plates, it had grapefruit sections (I hate grapefruit), chopped pecans, cottage cheese and your name written in red food colored mayonnaise with a squeeze bottle.

I really like Thanksgiving food...odd that way, I guess. And, I make my own damn dressing and it's good. I don't have to suffer through someone's crappy dish.

I make a pumpkin and squash soup that smells terrible and looks like a dirty diaper. It actually tastes delicious, but nobody eats it - I make it as a joke.

Giblet Gravy - frick this atrocious substance
my dad's family insists on this "country tradition" every year. it looks like putrid vomit, and tastes even worse over the cold turkey. Mom's family is where it's at ftmfw. hot turkey and brown gravy

Me too and I'll even take a few bites of a green bean casserole though I can't recall when there's been one at our feast. I think there was one at a Christmas lunch I went to in the past 5 years.
I like turkey, roasted, fried or smoked, but unlike you, Otis, I like them roasted because I want the drippings for gravy. I, at least, want one roasted turkey available.
I want all the same traditional dishes served that we have every year. I don't mind if someone adds something different as long as the usual suspects are present and accounted for.

my husband's grandmother's cornbread dressing looks like throw up. It's soupy and just terrible tasting. She noticed i never fix any and now thinks I only like rice dressing (which I love), but cornbread done well is one of my most favorite things.
same family, they put out the grossest apps like bean dip mixed with salsa or a block of cream cheese with A1 on top. It's rough.

My mother and sister-in-law are both really REALLY bad at casseroles 
Thank God grandma is there to save the day with the green beens and squash, pops has the turkey on lock, and my mac and cheese brings it all home!

I don't salivate at the thought of consuming a plate full, but I can tolerate a modest helping.

I'm the same. It's one meal where I'm overly particular about what's served. But, like you, I"m cool with new things being added as long as the favorites are all there.
We have invited several Brits to our Tgiving this year and one said she'd bring lasagna. The other one wants to bring a curry dish. I can't exactly say no, so that's what's coming our way.

There is just one cousin from NOLA that brings some serving of culinary death every year. It is usually ignored by everyone that makes a party of 50 or more.

My mom's cranberry salad, it has fruit, nuts, creamcheese, and I think those tiny marshmellows in it.
Just chill a can of the cranberry sauce, slice it up so I can have it with my turkey. Please don't ruin it with all of that other slop.
