Family behind Ichiban and Boru Ramen opening new restaurant on Government Street

Restaurateur Kwik Kit Wong applied to have the site rezoned from light commercial to restaurant use late last month. The Planning Commission is currently expected to take up the request at its November meeting. Wong could not be reached for more information before this morning’s deadline.
The property is currently owned by local restaurateur Chad Hughes, who told Daily Report this morning he plans to sell the location and did not wish to disclose the buyer’s plans for the land.
The Wong family owns and operates Ichiban, on Essen Lane, and opened Boru Ramen and Sweet Society in the redeveloped former Entergy site on Government Street in 2019

I don’t hate government or midcity. I live there. I just think the road diet plan was poorly planned and implemented, and that they’re spiking the football over economic growth that was already underway. I think the city busses not having spots to pull over is a HUGE problem, and 5:00pm traffic between S. 22nd st and Foster is abysmal. The medians were also built incorrectly and the greenery is horribly maintained. The street really would benefit from some shade trees. The bike lanes are also a poor use of that space because there are parallel bike lanes for most of that stretch on Capitol Heights one block over. That valuable real-estate could have gone to trees, parallel parking, or pull-overs for city busses.

From what I heard someone else took over and then it closed. I think they have plans to reopen Gonzales.

Agreed. I think the economic growth correlation is a bunch of BS. I did find the reduction of auto accidents as an interesting stat and should have been touted over economic development.
