I grew up eating the wishbone because my mother always bought whole chickens and cut them "country style". I cut it that way myself. Nine piece chicken.

For me it depends on the way the bird is cooked.

Most of the time the thigh is king.

I like fried wings below the thigh, but cooked any other way I guess the breast follows the thigh.

Drumstick is last because of the damn ligament crap.

1. Thigh
2. Leg
3. Butter Poached Chicken Breast on Mila's lunch menu. Best piece of chicken I've ever eaten by miles. MILES.

It was 10 pieces when Mamaw cut it up, because she always got the backbone.

I had to beat my uncle to the wishbone piece. If he was there I got a wing. It's amazing how many people a chicken used to feed. They must have been the size of turkeys, or else we sure do eat a lot more now.

Both. I bet as big corporations took over most of the chicken raising, they cut the length of time until culling so chickens probably are smaller these days to save money.

Just look at the difference in size between a Popeyes anemic sickly tiny wing and one from Churches. Well, at least there used to be an enormous difference in size. Been a 100 years since I had Churches so they might have started culling at an earlier date too.

y'all do that thing, where you held the wishbone under the table with someone and pull it apart, to see whoever was gonna do, or be whatever,, I can't remember.. we also called it the "pulley bone"..

now, it's all starting to come back...
i remember my grandparents always pulling the "pulley bone" apart to see which one was lucky enough to get the "last piece under the fence"... In other words, my grandfather's favorite piece was the azz, and they would pull wishbone to see which got the azz....

My wife cals it the pulley bone. My sister always said "wish, wish, wish". I always said "corvette". I got fricked.

My parents were from the Opelousas area and both spoke french. I just figured it was a french or cajun term.
