Duty free liquor in airport

So we have a house rented in the Bahamas with a few other friends soon a new my wife was wanting to get wine and liquor at the duty free shop in Atlanta when we switch planes. The beer and other food and snacks will be stocked at the house for us. Have y'all done anything like this before? I haven't and was wondering how it worked?

Last time I did (not at Atlanta), you bought the liquor and had to show them your boarding passes, and they bagged it and held it for you at the duty-free store, at some point transferring it to the plane.
Once we were at cruising altitude a stewardess came by and passed out everyone's duty-free purchases.
That has been a few years though, and it wasn't Atlanta.
ETA: I suppose they waited until we were over international waters.

That's the way she was explaining it to me. I was just wanting to hear from people with experience with it. Also, we plan on stocking up pretty well. Is the stewardess just gonna swing by and drop off my case of wine and liquor or give it to us when we get off?

You just need an international flight boarding pass. My dad has done it before when he flew to Guatemala. They bought it in Atlanta, and about halfway through the flight they passed it out.
And I know it is different on cruises. We were on a Disney cruise two years ago and I was going to buy a couple bottles. They wouldn't let you take it with you, and you had to wait for them to deliver it to your room the last night. I think that was more so you would have to buy drinks on the boat though and not to do with international duty free laws.

I just got back from Cancun and made a pass through the duty free liquor, and the savings really aren't worth the hassle IMO.
I'd just buy it when you get there.

When I was coming home from Mexico they wouldn't let us bring anything back if the seal on the duty free bag was broken. It had to be cleared by us customs.
I also didn't find the liquor to be that much less expensive at all.

I think you can get one liter of booze or 4-5 bottles of wine per person.

If you are coming into the US and have to switch planes...say, from Rome to Chicago to New Orleans, you will have to check your purchases on the Chicago to New Orleans leg, because you have to go through security again.
If you are lucky enough to live in driving distance of your U.S. arrival airport, you are good to go.
