Does Louisiana have a watermelon capital

I was up in my hometown of Batesville Arkansas today and decided to ride up to Cave City and pick myself up one of those juicy delicious Cave City Watermelons. Cave City claims to have the worlds sweetest watermelons. I guess they compete with Hope for Arkansas' title of best melons.
I enjoy a good watermelon and it was always a fairly big deal growing up. They have a watermelon festival every year. People are actually being warned about counterfeit Cave City Melons
Cave city melons have a certain Cave City sticker all registered local growers get.
Do yall have a place that produces some of these sweet bits of heaven?

Washington Parish has the mythical reputation of best watermelons.

Looks like it is a big deal there as well. They seem to have their own sticker too. Shits serious business.

Sounds like yall have a Hope vs Cave City thing as well with Sugartown vs Washington Parish.

There’s nothing mythical about WP watermelons
They are the best in the country

Have you had all the other watermelons in the country?

Have you ever had a Sugartown melon? Is it close to WP?
Up here in Arkansas I have never had a Hope watermelon. Mainly Cave City due to proximity. I've had a few other towns/countys local melons, but prefer Cave City.
Is there a real difference or is it bias?

Bias. 100 different factors can make each watermelon taste different. So, you never know what it’s going to be for the one single melon you eat that day.
But, if you want the nostalgia of having “your best” watermelon, go for it. I get a Washington Parish watermelon whenever I can. But I’m not stupid enough to believe it’s going to be the best simply because of a Parish. If the watermelon grows 3 feet past the Parish line will it not be as good? Seriously.

I live in SWLA. Every person on the side of the road has a sign that reads “Sugartown Watermelons”. Every single one.

I get that. I have noticed a difference in the few store bought melons I have gotten a hold of and the ones bought from a farmer on the side of the road. I am assuming they are picked closer to ripe from the farmer on the roadside.
I read a little bit about Sugartown and saw a reference to the soil being sandy. Cave city makes the same claim of a 15 - 20 mile area with sandy soil.

Did you buy one?

I’ve had them before. Really good. But I’m convinced most of the regular Joes on the road just paint a sign that says “Sugartown” while growing them in their backyard a lady in my hometown sold them once, and I know she didn’t get them from Sugartown. Just the name hype alone will sell them.

I believe that. Looking at the prices today the melons were $6-$12 a pop. I don't know how high you can stack them, but you could fit $1000+ worth of melon in a pickup truck bed load if stacked.

Pretty sure it's a requirement that if you sell watermelons on the side of the road in Louisiana you have to say they're from Sugartown even if you got them from WalMart.

My mom decided she wanted to try a Washington Parish watermelon being sold on the side of the road, dude was smoking crack because he wanted to charge $20 for an average size melon.

Washington Parish also has a lot of sandy soil. The doorstep of our house there looks like a tiny beach. Many of my relatives grow and sell watermelons. I have not had a better one from anywhere else. I have not even heard of Sugartown, though, tbh.

Thats assinine. Cave City Watermelons is a big deal in Arkansas. They give only the registered growers the stickers for the Authentic melons.
I got a fairly big one for $12. Im talking 2 1/2 feet long. Big a round as a soccer ball.
