Does honey go bad?

I didn't think that honey could go bad, just crystalize, and that you could fix that with a hot water bath/microwave/etc.
I just put some honey in my tea, and this honey has been sitting on my desk, getting used sparingly, for a really long time.
It smells and tastes like complete arse.

Supposedly doesn't go bad, read somewhere they've found edible honey in ancient egyptian tombs.

From what I have read and seen, Honey is one of the few foods that never goes bad.

That's what I am reading, but man... it stinks to high heaven.
Maybe I just don't remember how bad this particular honey smelled. I might toss it and go buy a fresh one.

Did you ever dip anything in it? Use a spoon in something else then in the honey?

its not supposed to go bad, maybe a sign it wasn't pure honey?

Not an expert, but when this happens it seems like the first time it is re-liquified (if that is even a word) it seems ok, after that it never seems the same to me and it goes into the trash.

Maybe someone at your office had a reason for "Payback"

I think someone sent you an office memo...

No. Its in a squirty bear, but its organic stuff from whole foods. That's not what I use at home, and maybe I am just not used to the taste/smell.
I bought this a long while back, and would use it from time to time, but never noticed the odor.
At home, I just buy the cheap stuff from Publix.
I have had some really nice wildflower honey and orange blossom honey before, so I am not just a honey philistine. I won't be buying this particular type again though.

Honey can go bad under certain conditions. Honey typically doesn't spoil because it's extremely low in moisture and high in sugars. The microorganisms that would love to eat those and spoil it pretty much just can't live in that kind of environment and die out.
However, if the honey is stored unsealed, it will pull moisture from the air. It can pull enough water to allow microorganisms to grow in it and then it can spoil or ferment.
Think about it. Mead is made from fermented honey. You dilute the honey enough with water, and yeast can then survive in it and turn it into mead.

Honey is cheap, bro. Throw it out. Anything can go bad if it gets some funk in it. Mayo can last damn near forever, but get a little bit of that turkey or ham in your mayo jar and see how it gets funky with the quickness.

It sound like some other matter was put into the honey at some point.
