I never knew this was a thing until the last year or so. I see this topic pop up on facebook periodically and it seems to be predominately a thing with black people. People seem to get really worked up when it is discussed.

Yep every time. After I'm done all utensils and surfaces that came in contact with chicken get washed and rinsed then rinsed again with a disinfectant. I do this with all poultry and wild hogs.

You seem a little obsessed.

Not that I follow everything the CDC says...

I just have never understood the benefit. I actually used to rinse first but stopped when I read about the splashing juices and contaminating argument. I haven't noticed a difference in taste, and I buy that it is safer to avoid splashing raw chicken juices around my kitchen.

Do not wash raw chicken. During washing, chicken juices can spread in the kitchen and contaminate other foods, utensils, and countertops.

I rinse it specifically to get the juices off and clean it. Considering they wash them in bleach I feel better. Plus I clean all the left over guts and pieces of bone they done remove.
Guess I’m black.

Sounds like something a psychopath would do

All you need to do is dab the chicken with a paper towel.

Chicken rinsed in chlorinated water is extremely rare. Less than 10% of plants use it.
Most tap water is chlorinated water.
No need to be dramatic with the bleach.

Usually depends on how juicy it is coming out the package.

I rinse.
My daughter got salmonella as an infant and it was one of the worst experiences of my life.
Took me almost 2 years to ever buy raw chicken again and I certainly never will from Sams again.

Most of the people commenting online say they rinse steak and pork as well. Lots of the people say they rub their meat with lemon juice and vinegar after rinsing as well. I had never heard of this before.

I am sorry that happened to your daughter.
I am not trying to sound insensitive, but you can't rinse salmonella off of chicken. People generally get it from either eating under cooked food, or cross contamination/unclean work space and utensils.
ETA: I didn't down vote you.

Meh...chlorine, bleach, muratic acid whatever.
I wash it because I want to. How’s that?
