After I'm done all utensils and surfaces that came in contact with chicken get washed and rinsed then rinsed again with a disinfectant. I do this with all poultry and wild hogs.

That sounds like a huge pain in the arse.

predominately a thing with black people.

Predominantly a thing with people from 3rd world countries. Hispanic, Creole, and Caribbean people who've migrated here are who I normally see doing it. This Hatian guy would rinse it with water, then with vinegar, and finally rub it with lemon & salt. He did the same thing with fish. I think the practice comes from a time when refrigeration wasn't available.

I will rinse out the cavity of a whole bird for stock or soup but that's about it...

I am not trying to sound insensitive, but you can't rinse salmonella off of chicken. People generally get it from either eating under cooked food, or cross contamination/unclean work space and utensils.

She didn’t eat the chicken, as she was not even a year old yet. I didn’t start cooking the chicken until after she was asleep in the crib for the night. All utensils and kitchen space used was cleaned after use. Not sure how she got it.

But, I still like to rinse chicken regardless and will continue to do so.
