Does anyone here have a comal?

Thought about getting one of these eventually. Probably an outdoor one that I can put on top of a propane burner. I'm not really sure the best place to even shop for one of these.
For those that don't know what a comal is it's these things with the convex shape in the middle for doing tacos

Surely you've heard of Amazon, yes?

Yeah
For something like this I'd prefer to see it in person to look at the build quality
ETA - And I did snoop around on Amazon and all of the outdoor types that I can find are concave and not convex like I want. They have some convex indoor pans but I don't want that.

I've seen them for sale at Mexican grocery stores. You might try that to see one in person. The ones I've seen seem to be good quality in terms of weight and thickness.

I understand that and prefer it as well, but one of the great things with Amazon is how easy it is to return stuff and it's free for prime members.
I found this one...has a lot of good reviews. It's 19 gauge stainless steel.

I have two of these. Some folks call them griddles. They are great for heading tortillas. I sometimes pour my cornbread batter on a hot one when I want thin cornbread.

Eight Deuce, I need to find me one of those to add to my cast iron collection (which ain't much of one). I use a 12" cast iron skillet for most of my cooking.
I do like the idea of one of these comals though. I like the utility of that convex shape. Doubt I'll buy one, my cabinets are already too full of other cookware.

Those look more like discadas to me.
I have a round cast iron one like Spotcheckbilly posted. It is definitely a comal, and I also have an oval cast iron one that has "comal "stamped on the handle.

Might be the issue that I'm searching for the wrong thing

Academy sells them but they are the outdoor gourmet brand

Not sure disadas is right either, that's more like a shallow wok. Walmart sells a Convex Comal that's similar to the picture you have.

Mill Scale
If you are still in Texas ride up to Mill Scale in Lockhart and get a chapa. They make great stuff in addition to their smokers. I have a 15” no legs. I put on propane burner, coals, prop on wood over open fire or even on my grill. I use the bell out of it and it will do exactly what you want.
I’ve got mine cooked down and seasoned good enough now that I probably could scramble eggs on it without sticking.
Not the cheapest thing but handmade and will go in your last will and testament.
Plus added bonus the bbq you can eat while there.

I looked up comals. Most are cast iron like I've always seen. At first glance the OP's pic looked more like a discada, but you are correct, they are slightly higher on the sides and are sometimes called cowboy woks. Kent Rollins has a good video of him cooking on one.
None of the discadas I've seen really have the hump in the middle. I finally found what the OP is looking for, and it is called ,of all things, a "humped comal". Search that and you will find many different sources to buy one.
The whole thing looks pretty bizarre to me, but obviously there are some who like cooking on that particular design.
If I were buying something like this, I think I would prefer the discada, as it is much more versatile. It's a big griddle that you could cook mexican feasts for a crowd with, and you could even fry fish in it in a pinch. You can toast or cook your tortillas around the edge instead of in the center when your meat and vegetables are done.

A trip to Lockhart is a must for anyone who enjoys BBQ. I've been several times and enjoyed the hell out of it.
I'd love to be in the market for a Mill Scale stick burner, but my current pit is holding on strong.

I found one at Goodwill, but they are hard to find. I guess people don't want to part with them. Got a smaller one that I will refinish when it gets a little cooler.

I got one from masienda. It's a collaboration between them and madein. Pricey, but nice. It's not convex shaped and it's carbon steel.

Amazon has been cheap, overproduced Chinese crap for years now. OP asking for places to shop for a quality product is a legit question.

I learned how to heat my tortillas from watching Cheech and Chong, Up in Smoke.
