Yes, I am hoping it will be higher-end AG store. I would think it would be with Santa Maria, CCLA, and other wealthy neighborhoods in that area

It will be a high-end AG store.... Not caladros though...

Talked to someone associated with Calandros and was told they owned some property in that area and were going to build. And no Rouses chicken salad is nowhere near the great Calvins.

HEB has been the best grocer in Texas for many years.

I can assure you it's not a Calandros that will be built on old Perkins across from Blue Bayou.

HEB stands for Howard Edward Betts. They are only in Texas and Mexico. They had a small store in Lake Charles back in the 90's but it closed.

Rouses was coming to BR at Highland and Perkins but instead bought the bankrupt Sav a Centers ( which were the old A &P stores) and abandoned that project because this gore them into the NO market. They have since moved across the lake and East. A new store in Waveland or Diamondhead just opened. I'm sure BR is on their radar but not as of now.

The Highland and Perkins is being anchored by whoever owns the Murrays Supermarket in St Amant. Not sure what concept they have in mind but I would think it would be demographic appropriate.

It isn't close to HEB but Rouses is miles better than anything else in LA

The stores offer varying levels of quality

I prefer Fresh Market in BR to Rouse's personally

It's Butts, not Betts. The son who expanded it was Howard Edward Butts. "Here Everything's Better" is their tagline.

I wonder if the Winn Dixie at Lee and Burbank will go to the chopping block like so mqany others did when BiLo takes over. That would be a workable location for a Rouses. The amount of students that recognize the name would be an automatic plus for it.

Not sure. I know before the buyout Winn Dixie was planning on closing that store and moving it to the opposite corner - as if BR doesn't have enough empty big box stores around.

I wouldn't put the two in the same category, Fresh Market is more of a speciality store than a place you can go grocery shopping.

This why I generally dislike big box stores. They eventually lose out to the newer big box down the road and they are not easily put to adaptive reuse.

I just wish FM's in-house bread selection was half of what Whole Foods offers.

It goes to the fact that the baker does not know how to bake bread, and the remedy is so easy it's not funny.
