This is America. I eat them if I feel like it. I fought our enemies to assure our rights to have these freedoms and for this kind of stuff.

The only time I buy presliced supermarket bread is to make "boat" sandwiches for fishing trips and similar outings. I put the two ends together & make "my" sandwich with extra stuff. Everyone else can have that squashy, sugary crap bread. The only good part of a commercial sliced loaf are the heel ends.
With the nationwide food fascination so firmly entrenched, and every third restaurant touting the quality/provenance of their ingredients, I'm amazed that most Americans still eat such sh*tty industrial bread.

They always seem to get used to make my slices of cheese toast. I don't have to toast the other side first like I do with the rest of the loaf. It gets too soggy if I make cheese toast with middle slices if I don't toast the backside just a little bit first.

They have one use-to keep the rest of the loaf fresh..

My favorite sandwich. A double heel

is bread still a staple grocery item for most people?

It would seem so....every supermarket I frequent in a small LA town has at least 15' of linear shelf space devoted to presliced breads. In the case of SuperWallyWorld, it's closer to 30' of bread, 6' high.

I eat a sandwich almost everyday for lunch
and we usually have "good" bread that we buy from a local baker on hand
but sometimes I just want a ham sandwich on white bunny bread
and yes...I eat the heel, especially for pimento cheese toast

what kind of sandwiches are you eating every day, mate?
Posted on 5/3/16 at 10:15 am to Lester Earl
turkey, pepper jack, arugula, purple onion, spicy mustard on toasted sourdough
everyday

Seriously? Every damn day, no seasonal variations? For your sake, I hope the turkey is minimally processed/home-roasted, because sliced deli turkey is not something I'd be eating every day. Processed meats (even poultry/non-red meats) are not health food by any stretch of the imagination. I'd double up on the pepper jack and skip the turkey.
That big ol' "boneless" oblate spheriod of turkey breast sitting in the deli case is full of sodium, both the regular "salt" and sodium phosphate & acetate. Depending on the brand, it can also contain modified food starch, carageenan, etc.

ok...not everyday
I eat out for lunch on occasion or eat leftovers, but it is certainly my go to at home lunch

Is for me, these 2 nasty grinded up heels from two sacks, just made me a larapin' good leftover pork chop sammich!
omg, I'm poor, trashy, and don't buy fresh baked bread for every sammich.

You keep them in there to keep the rest fresher. Then you eat them when you are drunk.
Jesus Christ. You people would probably die if someone didn't tell you to eat and drink.
