I love a pork & bean half sandwich on Evangeline Maid bread, but cold spaghetti is better.

Never tried cold spaghetti but yeah, it makes a good sandwich
Pork & bean
Mashed potato *bonus if field peas are mixed in
Spaghetti
Potato salad
All on white bunny bread

Born and raised in north Louisiana, beef stew was always over rice. Also had many a mashed potatoes and gravy sandwich.

It’s not unique to S La. it’s an Irish thing so northeast probably more than Louisiana
Really took off with the crockpot if I had to guess in the 70s
ETA: though the reason you never seen is that there aren’t tons of Irish immigrants that settled north la

While true it is probably more unique to southern coast, it is cheap to ship large quantities of rice and keeps for a long time, it isn’t outrageous that it shipped to other regions. People used to be more open to carbs.

Well yeah, what else is going to soak up the delicious gravy?
Slice of white bread.
Never have eaten it over rice (it has potatoes in it so it already has a starch).

You had stew? No, you had Roast with gravy. In South LA, a stew is something you cook to serve over rice. We’re not talking about the food network definition of a stew.

yes. I eat everything over rice.

What do you think South LA people eat beef stew over? I’m just curious what else is there to eat it with?
