I know a poster or two said skip Old Ebbitt’s. Whatever you do, don’t skip it. It’s a cool place and worth going to. I will 2nd Filomeno’s.

I agree. I like the Old Ebbitt's. It may not have gourmet food, but it is a fun and historic place. We like to stay at the Willard and it is two blocks away.

As for my favorite gourmet places, I like the Blue Duck Tavern, Tosca for Italian, Rasika for Indian food and Zaytina for Mediterranean food. Central is also good.

I’m not as cultured as most of you, but one of the best meals I’ve had came from Filomena

There’s a French place near DuPont circle that’s fantastic. I’ll try to find it for you.

I'm guessing it is Bistro du Coin, which is a fantastic place for wine, French bistro cuisine and people watching.

I like Cafe Milano in Georgetown for Italian food. Great people watching.

My wife says Hank’s Seafood at the Wharf. If you like cigars, Shelly’s Backroom is pretty cool and their campfire wings are amazing. Your list is pretty good though

Squid ink pasta is good here. I don’t know if it’s still on the menu

I would do Old Ebbitt for brunch instead. OR switch and up and go to Jose Andres's Zaytinya which does a four-course meze brunch menu. Kebabs, pita bread, great dips.

Founding Farmers is fine, but you can get that kind of food anywhere. Filomena is not what it used to be and is just very large format kitchy pastas. Joe's is a great menu for the stone crab alone, and if great steaks are you goal, then that is good for one night. I would offer up St. Anselm as your other steakhouse location, very cool menu, lots of grilled items, great atmosphere and wine list.

Another alternate dinner I would suggest would be Estadio for spanish tapas on their heated patio, great people watching, delicious hams, cheese and shared plates.

or The Dabney, which I think is the best in the city, which is mid-atlantic, local cuisine, great grilled dishes. The chef used to work for Sean Brock in charleston and has a great menu always.

I don’t think he could get reservations to 3 blacksmiths. I have been trying to get in there for a year with no luck

The Inn at Little Washington isn't an easy reservation either.

He never specified when the trip was. Could be next week or next year. I was just trying to give different suggestions outside of DC proper.

Little Pearl was best meal and value on my last trip up. $50 tasting menu from the Pineapple and Pearls/Rose's Luxury folks.

St. Anslem was fantastic as well - steakhouse from Le Diplomat group.

Other recs:

Tail Up Goat
Dabney
Maydan
Convivial
Red Hen
Bresca
Centrolina
Bad Saint
Thip Khao
Ivy City Smokehouse

As mentioned Le Diplomat and any Jose Andres place.

Old Ebbitt is better than it has to be.

Ok. Yeah. Those places are booked. My bad.

But people have given a lot of great suggestions in this thread. Y’all are going to eat very well!

ETA: I don’t care what some have said, I really like Old Ebbitt

Another thing you can do is go wander around the Union Market area. I don't know if everything is open, but it's always a good stop. St. Anselm and Masseria are great restaurants. Inside Union Market Rappahoneck Oyster Bar and Red Apron make some good stuff, plus you can shop the other food stalls.

I lived in Capitol Hill for 6 months and went to Union Market 2-3 times a week.
