Is there another dining city in the country that places can get away with the common practice of charging patrons for bread?
I've eaten many other places and really never encountered such a practice anywhere else.

Since so many places to it I guess people dont mind.. I can see charging for the bread when they put a load of topping on it but charging for just regular bread?? Thats excessive.. I really didnt know LV or Ginos even offered reg bread.
I know its not cheap to put the cheese, pesto, olive oil and stuff with the bread so I can see the charge there for some places but just a reg loaf of bread there isnt really any excuse at an Italian place to charge for that.

Had this happen to a group of us at Gino's about 5 years ago. Group of about 8 of us. Waiter kept bringing baskets of bread unasked for. We figured it was free. End of meal, check came, and we found out we were wrong.

My husbands lasagna was a child size portion
Eh. I get their lasagna every time, and I never even finish. I will agree it's not gigantic, but I get lasagna at every Italian place I dine at, and it's never a TON.
I have had mostly great experiences at LV, which is why I keep going back. BUT.. I do absolutely agree with most of the gripes. (Not the bread gripe though.. that doesn't bother me). I do agree that the price of the specials is insane in relation to the rest of the menu and they should at least tell you the price when telling you the special. And I do agree that their wine prices are insane. I got house wine once because I didn't want a $14 martini, and the wine was $12 on my bill. I might as well have gotten the martini.
I NEVER have issues with the Italian food though. And that's what I use the place for.. decently priced Italian when I want to be in the downtown area.

My husband regularly gets lasagna at Italian restaurants as well and this was half the size of an average portion at most places.

I have heard ok things about carrabbas but have never eaten there. But after my experience at Little Village I would try Carrabbas or go with Pinettas, Ruffinos or Ginos. I will never go to Little Village again.

Digulio's. I've been to Little Village a number of times. Lately it appears that the awful service from the Airline location is spilling over into downtown. The ribeye price has been raised, and mine was overcooked the other night.
The waiter was incredibly rude when I ordered a bottle of Eberle Cab, basically suggesting that I knew nothing about wine. What he recommended, and what I regretably bought, was shite.
He then told me it would be a slight upcharge for a baked potato with my steak (which comes with "your choice of potato"). The "slight upcharge" was $7. For a small baked potato. For $41 bucks for a steak and a potato, I would have gone to Ruth's. They now ask if you want roasted garlic with the bread. Sure. $3. For garlic. With bread.
The entrees took forever to arrive and the place wasn't even crowded. It was a Tuesday night.
I won't be going back for dinner anytime soon.
Wow. I will never set foot in LV again. I've only been twice and had ok times. It's horribly overpriced, though. Hopefully someone from management or ownership catches wind of some of this feedback because I have seen nothing but terrible reviews of either location.

Well, on a positive note. The downtown location did just fire their GM, (from what I hear she had a fairly poor reputation)
Also I heard that Will Covers critiques did not go over well with the staff
