Passes by today and it looked shut down but then again it always has and kept chugging along

More like Joe's frozen Crabshack

Just googled it and it says permanently closed.

I wanna say they made it well over 20 years. Not sure exactly when they opened but I would guess late 90’s.

that says more about Baton Rouge than it says about Joe’s Crab Shack

to be fair to BR, it was one of the only places that had a play area for the kids. Growing up we would beg to go there just for the playground area

I’ve lived here since 2003 and I don’t think I ever went to it
in HS we’d always gather at the one on the Nola lakefront though

Maybe even a little earlier, I remember being at St George when it opened

It wasn’t exactly thriving or even doing well.

Not really, it's next to I-10, I'm guessing a lot of pass-thru's. I went once because that's where a client wanted to go, never had chewy fried catfish before. The stupid singing shite was horrid.

It's been around a long time. It always baffled me. We went once in about 2004 because it had something to entertain the kids but it wasn't new then. Never went back

BR's chain restaurant reputation was pretty well deserved 20+ years ago but it's not the case anymore and has a pretty solid array of locally owned restaurants.
This is actually something that I like to give credit to millennials for. They've largely shunned chains and I think everyone is better off for it.

Yeah, I haven't had a friend recommend or invite me to a chain restaurant probably ever. Maybe with the exception of Ruth's (but ours is independently operated anyway).
I'd guess the chains that are still around have a majority older clientele.

Only positive thing that came out of Katrina is taking out that lakefront Crabshack.

Chains have their place and they aren't all bad. I actually enjoy going to J Alexanders. But for the most part they are bland and uninteresting.
Joe's Crab Shack is among the worst. You basically live in one of the best seafood spots in the world people

This. It baffles me how Dead Lobster survives around here.

J. Alexander’s is wonderful

I think the bland chains like Chili’s, Bennigans etc are all falling by the way side but yeah quality ones like J AlexNders still have their place

Not going to lie, I'd chow down on a Bennigans Monte Cristo right now. We used to go to the one by Cortana in the 80s regularly
