I had lunch there today, and Gugich & crew do an excellent job of putting out some quality food on a consistent basis. ........I've also got to try Opie's Cajun Cafe soon..Opie sounds like a really nice guy, who cooks some tasty food.

If you can go for lunch on Wednesdays, they have the best fork tender chicken fried steak.

My daughter loves the seafood stuffed potato and I like the fried shrimp.

Go with the stuffed shrimp or chicken fried steak.

They used to offer a ribeye, which I hope they bring back.

When I finally can ever get a weekday off for lunch, this will be the VERY FIRST thing I get. I've heard nothing but great things about it. Rock on Gug

Nobody goes there anymore, it's too crowded.

boudin balls are good. wed lunch special rocks, too.

i usually get a "cup and half" - a cup of chicken/sausage gumbo & half a shrimp poboy or half a french dip.

they have some of the best chicken/sausage gumbo in town.

That would be an excellent option to have on the menu..I'd probably go there for dinner if a ribeye was on the menu, rather than just lunch...

Friday for lunch I had the fried catfish & jambalaya lunch special. The fried catfish is always on the money & the jambalaya was very good, a lot better than the jam you get at the jambalaya shoppe.

the boudin balls are actually one of the things I don't like there...its like there is chicken in there or something....taste like a diet/lean boudin ball or something....

For the record, ive eaten Depsey's probably over 100 times...damn near everything there is VERY good, I like :

The waitresses (weak lately though)
Gumbo (most consistant in town, easily)
Chicken Fried Steak
Jumbo Fried Shrimp
Fried Catfish is excellent and consistant
The fresh cut homemade fries !
Jambalaya
Even the salads are very good

BTW, I see your prices went up a good bit lately...I was ordering off the old menu and was shocked to hear my total

i agree, but if you ever see the crawfish boudin balls on the menu which is not very often unfortunately, get them...those things are like heaven.

gotta keep up with inflation...we hadn't raised prices in 10 years until about a year ago...and since then we've had to raise prices twice...

and zilla, the boudin balls are not made with lean chicken...it's the same chicken we use for everything just cut up...so

It's a beast huh Gug? Seems like the ink isn't even dry on the menus before food shoots through the roof again. Glad to see you're rockin as usual, talk to you soon.
