Me and the gf are looking for some ideas for when we hit New Orleans in a few weeks. I ate at Deanies a few years ago, and it was some of the best seafood I've ever had. Is it still as good now? If not, what are some good seafood places in or near the French Quarter?

I ate there prob a two months ago, and it was awesome....HUGE portions with the fried seafood (I had the fried oyster platter), and came nowhere close to finishing it.

Couple that with some ice cold fish bowls of beer, and it was a great meal.

I went a few weeks ago... still awesome. Get the onion rings, too.

Haha, this is partly the reason I couldn't finish my oyster platter.

I have never in my life seen a stack of onion rings so high. Damn good though.

+1

Also, I will suggest GW Fins in the quarter for very good seafood. Try the lobster dumplings.

It is what it is. A neighborhood type seafood place that isn't always consistent with its fryer or the quality of seafood it has coming in. What sets it apart is a good amount of food for your money with the platter and a few other good specialty seafood dishes. (Kenner and Harbor seafood are in the same league.)

If you had a TERRIBLE meal, you probably just had some bad luck. Although you would also have to have some good luck to ever have a GREAT meal there.

Which deanies? There are more than 2. I haven't eaten at any since Katrina, but deanies seafood and deanies in bucktown I both remember as being good.

you can find seafood as good or better just about anywhere in the french quarter that sells it

Jack dempsey's on poland avenue (short cab ride from the 1/4) is much, MUCH better!

Casamentos on Magazine Uptown. Bozos in Metairie. Felix's in the FQ. All better choices than Deanies.

Ate at Deannies in the quarter Friday night.

First time ever there..

Place was packed like any others seafood resturant on a Lenten friday night.

But I slipped to the bar and was served in minutes...great service.

It is what it is, fried seafood nothing fancy.

had a crawfish quartet and some fried crab claws.

Everything fried was good, the crawfish Etouffee, not so much, the crawfish au-graten was OK... the crawfish dressing balls were delicious and the best thing we had..

Very reasonably priced for a place in the Quarter...

And I'll take Deannies for fried seafood over Felix's
