I am just not a big fan of Deanie's....I have eaten there close to 50-60 times since I was a kid. I have certainly never had a great meal there...I have had some good ones and mostly just okay ones to be honest.
Here is the deal...call me a food snob or whatever...Deanie's fries everything in the same fryer...resulting in a generic taste.
Places like Bozo's and Casamento's fry things separately...also they go out of their way to get high quality products...Deanie's does not.
New Orleans Food and Spirits is a much better version of Deanie's...they fry everything separately and give similar quantities. Taste a fried oyster at each place and you will taste the difference.
As far as fried goes:
Casamentos/Bozos>NO Food and Spirits>>Jack Dempsey's(which is a great place in the 9th Ward)>>>>>Deanie's
If quantity is what you desire= Dempseys
If quality alone is what you desire= Casamento's, Bozo's...even the Galley
If Bucktown is what you desire= NO Food and Spirits

I like Deanie's BBQ Shrimp...I'm not big on fried seafood. I actually like Deanie's BBQ shrimp more than Pascal's Manale. (TA will probably flip his shite for this statement)

They have good flavor at Deanie's...I have had bad luck with the shells...they tend to be very difficult to peel when I get them there.
The boiled potatos are a nice touch in the beginning of the meal at Deanie's...other than that, there are many places I would choose over it.

I will have to agree w/ you on this. I have only had them 3x at Deanie's. 2x they were perfect, GREAT flavor and perfectly cooked. 1x they had great flavor but were overcooked... I guess I just like more spice...Pascal's are not very spicy. Anyone have another place they like to get BBQ shrimp?

I thought Mr. B's BBQ shrimp were very good..
Until Saturday night, when I left Mr.B's a little disapointed.
The flavor was right on delicous.. but the shrimp were slightly overcooked and hard to peel.
I considered sending them back and probably should have.. But damn the french bread dipped in the sauce was outstanding.
While we are at it
Mr. B's seafood Gumbo = very disapointing. I can get better gumbo at a few places

Just ask Pascal's to make them spicy...I always do...they are better.
