Right now, the only places on the south side are typical cheep drink college bars playing hip hop (JL's, Bogies, Fred's, Reggae's, Mike's),

There's a reason they're able to continue making money without changing anything

The House, which really isn't any different than the places above

and one place that serves pizza (Mellow).

Wouldn't even really consider this a bar, as Wednesday is the only night people actually go there to drink.

I think you overestimate what the clientele of Tigerland is looking for. This place sounds like its much more likely to pull in young professionals that would frequent places like Bulldog and Olive or Twist rather than college kids hitting up Fred's and Bogie's. I just don't know how many of the former will actually go to that area to drink.

There's a lot of college students that don't go to Tigerland or get tired of Tigerland and want something else.

[quote]t looks nice, I'm just not sure the demographic is there to support it. It seems there are hardly any 25 to 35 year old professionals in Baton Rouge that don't have families. College kids may go there some, but not enough to keep it going. [/quote

Been out of BR since 2016, but I was a young professional living near Tigerland and Tigerland is the last place I would ever go out for a drink. I see quite a few people are optimistic about this bar, but I don’t see it lasting very long.

Looks cool and they need something like that for the kids on South Campus to walk to. We went to Shady's and Tops a lot when I was in BR. Thought Tops would make it because of how packed it always was. Just seems like there and the spot across from Chimes (Reginelli's, Mahoneys, etc) are doomed to fail.

Northgate is a mess because there is nowhere to park, and especially during the summer there are not enough people that live around there to keep business going.... Although hopefully City Slice is doing well because they have good food.

There's a bunch of riff-raff at Mellow on Wednesdays.

Just heard on the radio this morning that Wednesday night, they arrested 2 guys after shots were fired in the parking lot of Mellow.... I'm all for just blowing up the area around Tigerland and starting over.

ETA: Also, who just fires shots in the middle of a crowd, at a place with Police presence, and expects to get away with it?

Well that explains the crowd I saw there

It looked like they were watching a fight

I've been in this area for the past 5 years.
What I saw at Mellow on Wednesday was not usual. (There's always some, but not to that extent)

There were people loitering in the MM parking lot, to Sonic, and all the way to the Circle K across the street.
It was a shiteshow and I'm not surprised something popped off. Hopefully MM will employ some extra law enforcement to keep the undesirables away in the future.

I've been gone a few years now, but we used to do that all the time of Wednesdays and there weren't very many people there now. It seemed you'd have about half the tables there to drink and the other half were still there for dinner.

Doesn't surprise me at all. 2-3 years ago there was legit a racially charged gang fight. It was some Asian baws vs. some black baws. I'd say it was a 12vs12 and a couple guns got pulled, but not fired. Their pizza and karaoke isn't worth it

Went to trivia a few months ago and it’s $10 unlimited beer and call drinks. We stayed for karaoke and it was a complete shite show.

I used to go every Wednesday when I was underage (11ish years ago) because they didn’t ID until like 10.. but it’s gotten way worse since then.

They won't. There's a reason most of that (our) demo sticks between Ivars, Bulldog, Olive or Twist, etc.

When we have events at Fred's I always wonder why considering you have to uber there, deal with undergrads, and then uber back out somewhere else. That's $30 to go to fricking Fred's. Same thing here.

Damn, where you live? Fred’s is less than $10 Uber for me. Equal distance as Bulldog.

I don’t go outside of the 70808 if I can help it. Overpass is the farthest I’ll go.

Went to Top Golf last night and just didn’t drink much because I can’t justify the Uber.

Overpass area. On a Friday, that's usually around $10 there, plus cover, plus $10 to go back to adult bars.
