Bucket of Danny's fried chicken and a Saturday on the Tchefuncte river was my summers as as kid.
true story, we used to go out on the river and would usually bring bologna sandwiches.

one time one of the guys we went out with decided to get a bucket of fried chicken instead and was just proud as a peacock about how he was going to eat like a king while we had soggy bread sandwiches.

ol baw had a few beers and passed right out.

we got hungry...

pretty much decimated that bucket of chicken; all that was left was a single chicken wing.

baw finally wakes up, stretches and is like 'hand me a pice of that chicken' all happy and ready to throw down.

we hand him the wing

he looks at the wing and THROWS IT and said "I dont want no wing, give me a GOOD piece" and we were like "man i'm sorry but you just threw your whole lunch in the water"

i didnt think we were going to make it back to shore.

Brooks has a booth at the WP fair and the line is always very long. Now I know why!

I worked for the Danny's in Denham Springs for a bit. It was owned by the Feske family - absolutely stellar people! I seasoned the raw chicken before it was put in the cooler, where it 'marinated' at least overnight. When needed, the chicken was dipped in wash, floured up and fried. The onion rings there were handcut every morning, coated with the same wash and flour that covered the chicken and fried to order. Mrs. Clara made the cole slaw fresh each morning, and Mrs Bernice used chicken gizzards in the dirty rice, also fresh made each day. This was in the late 70s, so I am sure everything has changed. But that family insisted on good products and good service. And I hope there is still a Dannys around that still has that affection for product and service..

I love Danny's. My only complaint is their sides are crazy small, like the dirty rice.

The fried online rings thin cut and friend mushrooms are fanstastic if you just want some fat bombs.

Yeah T&C used to be a really nice area. Not so much anymore. It’s a laundry mat now. They freshened it up.

it had a ton of red seasoning in it. It was foreign to me.

Morgan City location is still open. Clint is about to close up for a couple months and renovate but its still open as of today. And it is some damn good chicken!

Clint owns the MC and Houma locations. Franklin is owned by a franchisee.

Used to work with Danny Colgin, the kid it was named after. I think he said his Dad and maybe uncle started it? The boy on the sign is him. He used to bring piles of it to work when we were on nights at McDermott's yard in Amelia back in the early 90's.

Wonder if they sold out to guy you're talking about.

Growing up Danny's was the place to get good chicken. We had one less than a mile from the house. I thought they were all gone.

Another Danny Colgin was a year behind me in school, the son of the boy on the sign.

Clint is also a Colgin. If they sold to him, they kept it in the family.

Oh good. Nice to know. Remember Danny telling me how his Mom took it over after Dad had passed but the store count kept dwindling for various reasons. Wonder how Clint is related. Cousin maybe?

You couldn’t beat the 3 wings and a fried roll special. I can’t remember if it was $2 or $3 but it was worth it. Now that building is home to mediocre/overpriced Mexican food.

I’ve fished with the owner of the Niceville location. He owns another fast food spot and claims he doesn’t make much off of Danny’s, idk how.

But he dips cope and doesn’t spit. Straight to the gut. He’s a true baw. That can’t be healthy

Clint and Danny are brothers. They have another brother who I'm friends with. All are probably in the mid 50's and the family still owns Danny's

Oh ok. Only knew Danny from working together. Never met his brothers. He was a damn good pipe welder even back then. We're around the same age.

Wanna talk nostalgia, we had one of these in boutte early 80s.

Our lab would routinely escape and cross some pastures to get in the dumpster and gorge himself on chicken. Surprised the little lady taking out the trash so bad she fell and hit her head out cold.

One time got impacted bowels and vet had to give him an enema, that was educational.

But when I see or hesr “ Danny’s fried chicken” that’s what I think of.
