Criminal charges against Mario Batalli?

I didn’t see the 60 Minutes until tonight. Looks like they are closing all the Vegas restaurants too and buying him out.
If anyone is surprised by his behavior I don’t know why. A great book “Heat” by Bill Buford goes into great detail about him and it was published in 2006. Another good book is “Restaurant Man” which is his partner Joe Bastianich and it tells a bit about his behavior too as they build their business along with his mother Lydia. Gives a good insight to how The Spotted Pig and Ken Friedman got started-surprise-Bill Clinton is mentioned quite a bit.
Article and 60 Minutes interviews
NY Times on The Spotted Pig
Group which includes Nancy Silverton cutting all ties
I’d have to say he is done.

I wouldn’t be surprised at all. More so if he isn’t. What a total f/u. He had enough (skimmed tip money) to buy some top notch women.

John Besh and Batalli. lol
What a year it’s been. I hope this thread helps red pill some of the hipsters on this board.

Would you let your daughter work for him?

I'd still eat his food.
Well they own over 20 restaurants and only 3 are closing so you can still eat it.
But I’d bet if he ever gets back in it will be in Spain or Italy. I’m betting he moves to Spain after all this is said and done. He lived there for a long time when he was young. Not sure about his wife. Her parents started Coach Leather and then Coach Farms which she is active in running.

I hope he and Gweneth Paltro drive off a cliff together.

He comes off as a complete arrogant A-hole anytime he is on TV, so this comes as absolutely no surprise to me.
But I will say, I've seen owners skim tips more than once. I've seen owners charge servers a percentage of credit card fees.
My guess is that they knew what was going on, and he is simply the now fall guy.

In Buford's book Batali really does come across as a total hack with little talent or imagination and a phony. I'm not sure who is responsible for the success of those restaurants. I've eaten at many of them and have had consistently good experiences. Del Posto was a top restaurant for me when Mark Ladner was the chef, just a well run, beautiful restaurant with fantastic food.

No need to hate on Gwyneth Paltrow. She’s a genuinely nice person irl. Got to meet her and Chris Martin in Austin one night at dinner.

Doesn’t sound good for Mario.
Shame, as he is a great chef, but he is looking at jail time if these stories are true

Wasn't there some talk of him opening a restaurant in N.O. like 6 months ago?

Never heard that, though I can’t claim to have inside information about him. Been to Babbo many times though
