So anyone know if that is actually catfish or is it swai are something?

And why do they always sit there doing their books at a table in the restaurant?

I have my doubts too. Anytime a restaurant doesn't call it catfish always leaves it open to interpretation and probably implies that it isn't catfish at all.

Even if it is "swai", it's still catfish.

Umm yes it is. Swai is another name for pangasius, which is a catfish

That is a shark catfish that is not a catfish. Thats like saying MahiMahi is a dolphin.

It's not at all.

The pangasius is under the order of catfish.

If it's not a catfish, what is it?

All shark catfish are catfish. There are catfish all over the world. Being a catfish in North America doesn't make it better to eat.

I would say it does, especially the conditions in which they are farmed.

Isn't most swai from Vietnam? Where they use human feces in the ponds?

For me it's the same as crawfish from China. Not gonna do it.

Someone told me that if the menu reads "catfish" it's an American product. If it reads "fish" it's probably swai or basa

This is extremely exaggerated and was started by American farmers when they realized a superior product was available at half the cost of theirs.

Their fish is cut the same as back when they were in Denham and they were definitely using US catfish back then.

My uncle raises catfish in AL, and he has always said if it doesn't say "Alabama/Mississippi/Insert State in America Farm Raised" on the menu, the fish is most likely from Vietnam.

Side note on this, when he takes the fish to be graded, he said that all the girl does is heat a filet up in the microwave before tasting it. I can't imagine what low grade microwaved catfish would taste like

I don't think I've ever seen any menu word it that way We used US farm raised catfish and the menu simply said, "Farm Raised".

They redid the menu since I've left, and it just says "catfish", but I'm almost positive it is still US farm raised. They switched to "wild caught" once and everyone hated it because of the color, so they promptly switched back. It isn't worth comping 40% of your customers to save a buck.

Its no secret the US denies shipments from Asian countries due to contamination. Most frequently tied to Shrimp & Tilapia.... You can find bazillions of credible sources not funded by US fisheries.

In my opinion there is no excuse -- none -- to import some basa or pangus or sutchi fish when there is a virtual never ending supply of Louisiana catfish right here.

I don't eat anything from Asia. I have never caught or seen a pangasius come out of any US waters. If someone says catfish I expect it to be a US product.

Friends don't serve friends Talapia Basa Pangasius Swai. Don't eat that shite. If you serve that crap you should be ashamed.
