WBRZ's Crawfish Price Index has the average price of boiled crawfish at $5.30 a pound

It's about in line with prices from this same time last year, when the average cost of live crawfish bounced from $6 to $5.22.

Live is $2.50/lb. which is pretty damn cheap this time of year.

Yeah, no one is selling live for $5.22. Shitty reporting by WBRZ.

Got boiled, the other day, at Michael's in Hammond for $3.29 a pound, That was the price if you bought 10 or more pounds. They were $3.79 if you bought less than 10 pounds.

They really were. Best I've seen in several years. This past weekend for whatever reason they couldn't catch as many and with the Super Bowl boils, prices spiked. I was reading some social media rants from people who had pre-ordered live crawfish, but many places couldn't fulfill the orders.

I've been on the OT too much.
100% read this as $3.50 at first.

What? I just read last week a few different article saying prices are great for this point in the year.

Fake news.

Just faux pas on the part of the news report in line 2 - should have been boiled, not live crawfish.

As a general rule of thumb, retail price of boiled crawfish in south LA is going to be about double that of the price crawfish that farmers or basin fishermen are receiving from their buyers. $2.50 a pound live crawfish is generally going to be about $5.00 boiled; $1.00 per pound live crawfish, usually around $2.00 boiled.
