Crawfish in Ohio

I was at a Kroger grocery store this morning (in southwest Ohio), and passed by the fresh seafood counter. I noticed some miserable looking crawfish on display (which you don’t see very often around here), and had to chuckle for a bit. They were whole, really really small, and looked like they had been frozen and thawed at least 2-3 times. I told the man working behind the counter that those were some pathetic looking crawfish, figuring Id get a good laugh back from him! Instead, he wrinkled his face up (obviously offended by my comment) and asked me why I thought so? But, before I could answer, he blurted out, “these are some of the finest crawfish in the world. We had them shipped in from Egypt, so you know they’re some of the best!”
I thought, this must be God’s way of reminding me who to trust to provide me information, no matter what it’s about! I got a damn good laugh at the whole thing tho, and thought I’d share the story!

You should have asked him how he got to be such an authority on crawfish.

I pretty much knew that conversation was over after his last comment! I really couldn’t stop laughing long enough to get another question out anyway!

Even though I doubt he owns the place or whatever, he might take pride in the stuff he is selling and took your comment as an insult.
Ive walked by some meat counters and thought to myself damn that doesnt look good at all. Never once did I think to let the person behind the counter know the meat looks like shite. Let alone, thinking theyre going to join in with laughter.

Kroger is a chain supermarket with an average meat market and a below average seafood section.

Just skimmed by and didn't even notice the Kroger.
Who goes by meat and seafood counters and tells the butcher their stuff looks pathetic?
Have you ever done that?

No.
And I honestly don't even think the encounter happened.

When you’re there buying some steaks and just happen to notice it, why the frick not? It was just making conversation. Don’t try to read into the story to find something that’s not there.

Yeah, I was just sitting around today, and thought, let me make up a story about crawfish at Kroger. What a dumb fricking comment.

I’ve seen live crawfish for sale at Sunrise Market on Henderson Rd. in Columbus. They looked nice. They also sell live lobster and crab and fish. Plus a wide variety of other seafood both fresh and frozen. And they have a little kitchen where you can buy roasted duck and other meats. It’s also the only store where I can always buy fresh bean sprouts.

I saw some sitting on top of ice years ago (2001) in Johnson City NY. I was staring a them thinking how sad they looked along with the high price of 9.99 per lb.
The clerk asked if I was interested a few and said people like these with their beer.
I told her, where I'm from people like beer with their crawfish.... Sacks of crawfish.

Insulting things is your way of making conversation? You must be a blast at parties.
There's some idiot and his wife from Georgia that you'd probably love

I saw probably the same Egypian crawfish in the freezer case here in an Albertson's (Perkins/Essen) in Baton Rouge. Wondered if they ever sold any? Expensive, too. I think they were like $16 for 4 lbs. of whole frozen crawfish.
