Cracker Barrel / Opinions ?

I have been to the Cracker Barrel Old Country Store in Gonzales twice. Both times disappointed with the service and prices per portions.
Asked for a bowl of turnip greens and got a small saucer of bland dried out greens. Was charged $3.50 for a “ Piccadilly” style bowl.
Service by the server was quick but it took ten minutes for someone to seat me and there were only about ten customers in the store.
Any one have better reviews than this ?

If you're not going to Cracker Barrel for breakfast, don't bother going.

How is it you are just now forming an opinion on cracker barrel?

I remember when visiting Cracker Barrel a basket of biscuits and cornbread was first placed on the table. When that stopped and they raised prices and reduce portion servings I stopped going to Cracker Barrel.

I haven't been to a cracker barrel not hung over in 20 years. I usually only go there when waffle House is too crowded. God bless southern breakfast chains.

The one here in Kingwood is great. Service is fast and the food is hot.
Lemon pepper grilled trout with fried okra and Mac-n-cheese is my go to meal.

I never went to CB before. I guess I expected great country cooking.

I have friends close to kingwood (Humble, Tx). Might like to try a place with tasty country fried steak and biscuits.

We love Cracker Barrel. I’ve received somewhat mediocre food maybe a few times, but never bad food. I eat like a king for $9 or so and considering a meal at a shitty fast food place costs $8 I think that’s a good deal.
We always leave with leftovers and avg about $10 a person probably.
I’ve been to at least a dozen different ones at least 50 meals since the late 80’s. No bad experiences that I can think of.
Plus I get “nostalgic” candy and a soda for the road.

Thank you for sharing your experience. Perhaps, I will try a different CB store. My dad always liked CB but I never shared a meal with him there.
I don’t mind paying a fair price for an honest meal but the turnip greens and the red beans were bland and was unfilling for the price plus tip. Perhaps, I’ll try their lunch menu instead.

The only time I go to the Cracker Barrel is when I am travelling on the interstate in an area where there are no good restaurants. That said, when we are in such a place, we are usually happy to find a Cracker Barrel.

Also, they rent books on CD for free that you can return to any CB. Super awesome on road trips.

Did not know that. Thanks

I just looked it up. It's not free anymore, but it's like $4. Still a good deal It used to be a $20 deposit that you got back when you returned it.

Go to the Humble Inn or Humble City Cafe for a legit southern breakfast

This is how I feel about the place. I've been several times over the years for breakfast only.

Agreed on breakfast. They serve it all day.
The few times I have tried their regular menu options it was just mediocre at best.
